The general assumption (if not preference) seems to be that Mayfield will be under center to start the season.

The questions are, what attributes does Mayfield possess that Knight does not? What can he do in this new offense that Knight can't?

We've all seen Knight's performances, ranging from superstar to yikes. But looking back on Mayfield's freshman year, he laid some eggs too.

Both seem to be able to physically make all the throws. But the word of the day here is consistency. Knight can be inconsistent. Jury is still out on Mayfield, but he showed some inconsistency at TTU. Granted, we're 2 years removed from that so it's tough to make a judgement.

What about the wheels? Hasn't seemed to be a problem for Knight, and Mayfield certainly wasn't plodding around the field at TTU. I'd call it a wash.

Decision making? Tough to call because they are installing a new offense, with new reads, progressions etc, so you never know how someone will respond. That being said, Mayfield has run something very similar before, so I'd probably give him a slight edge here.

Durability? Both have missed substantial time due to injury, and it's difficult to distinguish between "getting injured" and "prone to injury". Wash.

Both have the characteristics one would look for in leader, they just seem to be polar opposites personality-wise. Mayfield is more charismatic, Knight more subdued. Not saying one is better than the other, just different.

Don't get me wrong, my favorite QB is the one who puts up Ws. But are we getting ahead ourselves thinking Mayfield is the obvious best option going forward?
