Gonna be some good, some bad, and some in-between here. Just some scrambled thoughts by the boards most favorite person ever.
1.) We survived in a night game in Lubbock with our QB throwing two interceptions and the worst officiated game I've seen since the Oregon fiasco. That's impressive.
2.) Murray had a bad game. He did some good stuff but those two picks were absolutely horrible and his constant decision to go deep in the 3rd quarter was a bit much. He had stuff that was there and should have gotten it. We don't need the TD every time.
3.) Murray also had the best game I've ever seen from a leadership position in years. Baker was the GOAT leader for us but Murray consoling Motley was one of the most leader things I've ever seen from him. Very well done on that end.
4.) On the flip side if you're a senior on that defense and you're too busy celebrating to help a teammate who is clearly falling apart mentally you're a god damn waste of a scholarship. Lack of leadership on this defense has been an issue since Striker left. That is absolutely disgusting. Yeah Motley isn't exactly the greatest DB but Jesus Christ he looked like he was crying from letting the team down and it took our soft spoken QB to come over and be the one to console him. Like WHAT THE HELL?
5.) I was very wrong about Samia & Sermon. I'm glad neither of them got benched. Samia is finally playing like an elite guard and Sermon looks like he had a switch come on for him. Great game by both of them for the most part.
6.) We've gotta figure something out about defense. You can't install a new defensive playbook midseason but god it's tempting to want to say why not. Our schemes and soft coverages make no sense to me. At all.
7.) Lincoln Riley. He's an amazing head coach and I wouldn't trade him for the world but he's got some issues that he needs to be accountable for. We've had zero defensive leadership from our defense since he took over. This is a problem. You have to be able to instill leadership if you don't have natural leaders or lead the team yourself. Lincoln hasn't done that on defense at all. We also need to talk about the penalties issues we've had since he's taken over. Yeah the refs were fvcking awful but we commit some of the dumbest penalties I've ever seen from a football team. Whether it was the pile driver from Obo last season or Lamb clearly going too far it's just retarded and needs to be fixed. Play calling has been iffy at times but I'm not going to criticize him when we've had the best offense since he's been here. But yeah. Leadership and penalties please get it fixed. Also clock management on offense. Not burning timeouts because we can't get set would be neato.
8.) The fvck did that DB not get ejected for targeting? Jesus H man. Terrible no call.
9.) I really think we need to take our lumps against Kansas and maybe let Brown & CeeDee rest. Brown to get healthy and CeeDee to be accountable for almost costing us the game at that point with his stupid ass penalties. I would also give us a time to get Crawford & Rambo more playing time. I truly believe that Rambo is a good receiver. He just needs reps. That way if Brown or CeeDee gets hurt against a real team we'll have that depth there.
