There's been talk over the years that the "death penalty" that SMU was given in the late 1980's will never happen again, mainly because it's too severe and the fallout from it was....and is....felt for many decades. SMU has been rendered irrelevant since then and I am not sure there's any end in sight.
Tennessee hired a good coach in Heupel and I wish him success. At Tennessee, he has the resources, but competing in the shadows of Alabama, Georgia, LSU., Florida and ATM will be challenging, aside from the NCAA penalties.
Heupel is, to me, an iconic figure in OU's history having been such a huge part in OU's resurgence following the dismal decade of the 1990's. We should all wish him well.
And for the record, Heupel's record at UCF was 28-7 over his three years.
