According to the media guide, Alvarez is a Soph. after playing in one game last year (the opener against La. Tech). I can't imagine burning a redshirt year for one game -- a blowout in August. What was the story behind this. If Alvarez wasn't going to redshirt, why didn't he play again? Alternatively, couldn't the coaching staff have found some malady to qualify him for a medical redshirt?
