I believe he could be redshirted even if he plays through the remainder of the season before the CFP. He played last week, then he will play on Saturday, then play in the Big 12 championship game, then play in a bowl game, which makes 4 games. If he plays in a CFP game, a 5th game, that would not allow him to be redshirted.
If he elects to leave OU, his draft status would be very low in next April's draft.

You’re right except in the case where we make the playoffs and win 1st game. CFP Championship game would be game 5 for him if he plays all games leading up to it.
