If we could take 2017 Mayfield and place him on every single team since 2000, how many of those teams would have won the National Title?
In my opinion
2000: yes of course
2001: would have given Miami a run for their money with the defensive talent we had
2002: possibly but tOSU was salty that year
2003: yes would no doubt have beaten LSU that year
2004: no one was beating USC
2005: no too bad but bomar was horrible that year so maybe a 40+ Pass TD offense transcends the season?
2006: I think they beat the gators in the NC
2007: yes would have played tOSU and ran them out of the building
2008: yes, he would have made the plays to win against Florida
2009: yes this was probably the biggest waste of a defense I’ve seen in the last 20 years
2010: I think it was a possibility because The defense was decent.
2011: probably not
2012: nope
2013: the defense over achieved but that oline was HORRID. The RBs were average joes
2014: nope
So in my mind 7 of those teams had a VERY real chance of winning it all if Mayfield was placed on those teams. That’s depressing. It makes you wonder how the hell mayfield won the 34 games at OU while the defense gave up 25+ ppg during his tenure.
