Good to know, ia...I don't recall your mentioning that...Thought you might be one of the Rare Few, and sometimes, it's Lonely, at the top. Thanks Ma'am ! There are a lot of Sooner fans up here (those folks that appreciate watching a Great football team instead of watching the corn harvest)
I stay in Texas. I'm a Sooner thanks to President Jackson's "Indian Removal Act " of 1830. I don't know whether to thank or condemn him.
That's about how far I got with it, too, ia...Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherokee, and Creek were fairly easy...All 'C' Words, but the fifth, of the 5 Civilized Tribes, always eluded me...Seminoles. I had to stop and think about that one...I cannot remember the whole thing without looking it up but when I was in grade school in TUL we were taught the 'whole list' of tribes represented and it started "Choctaw, Chickasaw..."
Since my family moved to Miama I've learned there are seven major tribes headquartered there that all are in the Casino binness now and there are 'Minor tribes' that no one have much heard of (Modoc is one).
Me, too...Started to school with several Cheyenne-Arapaho...They still lived in Teepees, along the Washita River. True Story!I was gonna type Cherokee but forgot the Creek & Noles...
I grew up with and had many good times with 'Native American' friends back then
My Friends were named Whiteshield, Standingwater, Lone Elk, Pewo, Big Foot, Howling Water, Old Crow, Scabby, and other more descriptive names. No one was made fun of, or was 'Bullied' about, those names. Their names were different. Their skin was a different color, but they were our Classmates. They were our Friends. Life was simpler, then...The indian friends I had in the early years were surnamed Payne, Butler and McDonald. (there were more but its been too many moons...)
iasooner, I can't answer that one. I know the Osage and Chickasaw lands are pretty big geographically. Good subject. I'll study.
My public education at Taft Elementary in Lawton taught me what I am. Years later, Genelex Labs in Seattle confirmed. Our public education system doesn't seem to teach us we're Native Oklahomans and Native Americans anymore.
"War Chief" comes from Hollywood.
Crow died Apr. 3, 2016. "War chief" comes from Hollywood. Who knows beside Crow may have adopted such a title.
There are holes in the presentations here but who am I to argue? White man always knows best.
I was thinking the same thing! Lota guys peeing on your rug, man. They peed on your rug!![]()
That's been a common occurrence as time goes by
