Earlier this year I was jawing with my Alabama cousin about the SEC, SEC overhype his conference gets and we made a bet. I got all the B12 teams and he has all the SEC teams straight up against those playing each other in the bowls.
OSU vs A&M
OU vs LSU
Baylor vs Georgia
whoever loses the most games has the choice of paying the other $300 or agreeing to never, ever talk down conference shit again to other. Lol
Fricking Gundy!
LSU gets OU in a site where they played their last game. Then if they win, they get to play a home game for the national championship.
A&M gets to play a virtual home game in Houston, their biggest recruiting town.
The only reason I'd ever find an 8 team playoff a good idea, is if the conference champ gets a home game in the first game. Let's see how the SEC warm weather teams, fare in the snow in Columbus in December.
The crowd in Houston last night was like a home crowd for A&M. The crowd today will be a huge advantage for LSU. It's that way for just about any SEC team. And during the season, they NEVER play out of conference games against quality teams in cold weather.
They don't just have crowd advantage because they have great support, though they often do. But the promotion makes a big difference, especially this year. LSU should be playing Clemson. Ohio State was better this season. Then there are the sites. Half of the bowl rotations for the playoffs are in SEC territory. And this year, on top of that, they get the national championship game.
The Big XII had a better non conference performance this season than the SEC. But you'll never hear that talked about. So we go play shorthanded against a home crowd disadvatage. If we get beat, that will be a huge factor. KInd of like the NC game in 2003/04.
