I guess BYU is a stepping stone job to powerhouses like Virginia, so...

...tell me why again, why would the Big 12 would want BYU?

Bronco Mendenhall to UVA.

It'd be strange playing them annually, semi annually...half the team, 18-19, the other half, 26-27.

Assuming they still do that mandatory missionary thing during their college gig.

I don't want to hijack the thread along religious lines but here's my .02.

The "missionary thing" is completely voluntary--recommended but not required. That said, a large percentage of Mormon males in the 18-20 year old group do it because it's (1) so much a part of the culture of that particular religion and (2) something they're encouraged to do from grade school on. You also have to remember that they give up two prime years of their lives to do religious work all over the world at their own expense, which IMO is not a small sacrifice.

FWIW the Mormon religion allowed polygamy for a small percentage of men (less than 10%) until 1890. It's been officially disavowed since then.

Thanks, my info was extemporaneous and incorrect.
No disrespect intended.

First, I'm stunned Mendenhall would leave a competitive, winning program at BYU for a bottom-feeder in the ACC. In my view of the college football world, UVA is a step down from BYU. I guess he knows what he's doing, so I wish him the best. He just might get UVA winning again.

Second, count me as one of those who said "hell no" to adding BYU to the B12 when the topic came up a couple years ago. Geographically, it is not a good fit in the B12. Having a conference that stretches from Morgantown, WV to Provo, UT is ridiculous and the travel expenses for the various sports teams would be prohibitive.

Exactly how I think - on both topics.
