Which of the following 2 scenarios are better for the long-term success of the program and to maintain recruiting momentum?
This is all under the assumption we win out and go 12-1 as Big 12 champs.
Scenario #1: Finish #5 in the playoff rankings and beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl by 1 point in a very close game.
Scenario #2: Finish #4 in the playoff and lose to Alabama by 20 points in a game where the offense makes us proud but the defense is demolished, but watching the game we are overmatched, but not that embarrassed. Alabama just proves they are better.
I’m really torn on this as beating Georgia is awesome, but so is making it to the playoff 3/5 years and an extra month of being plastered all over ESPN and the extra coverage. We could easily spin that we were always a year away and just making it to the playoff was incredible the year after Baker and helps establish we are in the elite of elite in college football.
