How do you guys feel about how Hurts handled himself in the press conference he gave recently? I've heard several in the media say that he came off very cocky. I listened to it and I can see where they got that impression. Most of our QB's in recent memory have been a little more humble.... at least in their public comments. Even Mayfield. Does Hurts think he is something special (I believe he said that) and maybe hasn't completely bought into being a Sooner? I have to admit some of his comments were a little weird

I differ completely.

I thought he came across as very positive and he is very glad being a Sooner QB to follow both Baker and Kyler.

Kid is a winner and brings that attitude, just like Baker and Kyler did, but in a different fashion. It presents like a lack of humility but I truly believes his intentions are to come across as "believe you will do great things if you ever wish to do them".

Just watching him from afar I always assumed he was a very humble kid. After that conference I'm not sure.

On another note, did Riley just basically guarantee him the starting position? I know it certainly seems like Hurts should be the guy, but we have had other QB's in the past that surprised everyone and became something special. Could this happen with Mordecai? I don't know enough about the kid to say either way

Hurts is a first class guy and he's not cocky.
I doubt if we will see obscene gestures from him.

Love the shot at our Heisman qb. I'm not saying being bad is cocky. I'm saying being cocky in your very first press conference for a new team was a little odd.

I guess ppl see things differently. Many in the media were also talking about it. I thought it was kinda odd and boastful which we aren't used to recently.

He's at a new team and is expected to be a leader, I would hope he would be cocky. Everyone is looking to him to lead not only the offense but the entire team. Hopefully that attitude is infectious and others start acting the same way. Have you seen the videos of him on the weight room the dude is a beast, and Im glad hes on our team.

He is definitely a beast in the locker room. Lets home it translates to being a beast on the field.

Do we think Hurts will definitely be the starter with no thought going to Mordecai? I'm really looking forward to the spring game to see these two and how each performs.

I don’t believe that Riley will just hand Hurts the key without earning it because I think he realizes he has two special QBs that are more than capable of giving Hurts a run for his money. There is no doubt that Hurts is the early leader in the race but both Modecai and Rattler will still have a say in it.

Rattler who did not arrive in Norman early, is a definite redshirt

There is no such word as definite in todays game. He will likely redshirt but injuries and his work ethic could change that status.

It takes sometime to learn the offense's playbook especially for a QB and Rattler decided not to enroll early like some other freshmen did, and its obvious that Rattler knew he will redshirt.
I think some of our freshmen WRs who came in early, will get early game playing time.

Bring on that Confidence and Swagger Jalen, lets get Number 8!
Would you rather have a Sleepy Head Landry Jones or a John Freakin Wayne type? I rest my case. :D

Well I was definitely not big Landry Jones fan. Every QB is going to have their own personality. I've never heard an OU quarterback refer to him self as "special".

I dont see why Hurts wouldnt be the starter, unless he just cant pick up the playbook. He has all the tools to be a great QB at OU. He chose OU in hopes to get to the NFL, his work ethic and athleticism will put him out there when we face Houston. Mordecai will be the backup and I could see him transferring out after this season. Hopefully he gets plenty of playing time in the 4th quarter cause we have that big of a lead.

I didn't listen to the press conference but frankly I don't care much about Hurts except how he performs on the field as long as he doesn't disrespect the University. Was he as cocky as The Boz? More? I doubt it. A lot about nothing, IMO. He is a Sooner now, so I'm for him and if cocky is his thing, fine.

This fan base was enamored by Bosworth's and Mayfield's behavior. Hurts and his ego should not be a problem.

No CT, the problem is those guys had been at OU a while before they got cocky. They didn't come in the very first press conference and talk about how great they are.

So Hurts' ego will be a problem ?
If he continues to be the player he's been over the past 4 years (both on and off the field), Hurts' ego won't be a problem as far as I'm concerned.

You compared him to Boz and Mayfield....I was just responding as to why it was different.

You confuse "cocky" with being positive about his abilities. Were Baker and Kyler "Cocky"? Hell no. They were positive about their abilities as is Hurts.
Hurts IS GREAT. He has led Bama to a National Championship and he is a respected team leader and a winner..
We need QBs who are positive about their abilities and Hurts is exactly in the mold of Baker and Kyler. None of all three are "Cocky". All three are proven confident leaders.
And all three are Great!

No....I compared the fans' acceptance of two other cocky players in OU history to Hurts.

well their acceptance was based on players that have been here a while. I'm not the only person to find this odd. Many in the media have mentioned it as well. I'm not saying its good or bad....just seemed different for a first time OU player even though I know his situation is different with his history.

Well lets not forget why he is at OU. If he was truly a great QB then he would be starting this year at Bama.

So you are questioning Hurts greatness in his talent, his leadership, his past history of being 26-2 and a national championship, and his character, and how all on his team and all of the coaches who respect and loved him and Hurts's confidence in himself?

You are one in a million who does not recognize his greatness and you even keep criticizing him.

Did you say the same for Kyler and Baker? They had the same confidence in themselves as did Hurts.
Hurts actually came to OU with more successes than either Kyler or Baker.

Oklahoma is very lucky to have him.

Do I think Hurts is a great quarterback? No I don't. I think he is a very good quarterback that was on a great team. He needed to improve his passing accuracy which is the main reason he isn't the QB at Bama anymore. I'm not saying he can't do that. I'm saying I don't know. It will be interesting to see how Riley uses him this year. I don't think he is going to be nearly the passer that Mayfield and Murray were....but I think he can be solid.

bull pull off your crimson colored glasses for once. Just because Hurts is at OU now doesn't automatically make him a great QB. We are all hoping he does well, but lets wait and see before crowning him
