1. Offense played fairly well. Not top level, but not anything to panic about either. When you get the ball 3 times in a half, one INT, one goal line stand, and one missed chipshot is no points. Problem is the 3 times in a half part, not ability to move the ball.
2. Thankfully we don't play another option team this year. I guess coaches were so sure we would win this game that they didn't focus on it enough but we really looked lost trying to deal with it. You can't let an option team dink you for 4 yards a play, which is what can happen if you aren't heavily prepared.
3. Needed way more substitutions on defense in second half. I guess coaches figured this Army offense was so quirky substitutions were going to result in lot of busted plays but it doesn't matter. If starters get too tired the smaller less strong team can start handling them and when you are running a ground based option and can start physically handling the other team it turns in to long day. Just ask Barry.
4. Gameplan on D appeared to be to not give up big plays and assume they would bog down eventually due to our superior talent. Problem is when superior talent stays on field constantly it gets tired. They kept executing option to perfection. Death by thousand 3-4 yard cuts almost resulted.
5. Needed to take more risks to stop run. Put 1 DB on each receiver man to man without much space and everyone else up within 4-5 yards of line. Everyone. It is true that it might result in a long run or two, but would stop the 15-20 play drives, get your offense back on field, and keep the defense from getting worn out. Their defense couldn't really handle our offense and the more possessions we got the better this game was going to go.
6. Summary: Only option team we play this year. Highly disciplined opponent. Throw out the film, focus on getting back on feet against Baylor, use result as motivation, and hope it was aberration. It better be b/c the real schedule is coming soon.
