My guess is shorter rather than longer. unlike stoops, who wasn't perceived as a premier offensive innovator, riley is practically seen as the second-coming among nfl insiders. could the lure of big-time nfl $$ and pro-level competition eventually take him to dallas or miami etc? we'll see. i'll say this though, should he go i would immediately get on a plane to ames and get matt campbell. that guy is a winner, and should LR bolt for the pros i'd feel better if we had Iowa State's HC.

OU is not a stepping stone job. I believe Riley goes at least ten seasons.
i hope your right CT, and history has shown you to be correct with a notable exception. so... trivia question for ya. name the only ou head coach to quit the sooners and go directly to an nfl head coaching job.

Dallas will come for him if their season is not what JJ like. Last year on their head coach’s salery. I hope not but as we know money talks and moves people.

Fairbanks. After he got the program on a three year probation. The nation never saw the great teams of 1974-75.

FWIW, Riley & Garrett will make the same amount of $$ this season.
Hey SCS nice call on the salary match. i looked it up just because i couldnt believe it (no offense!) and yet it is. there's something a little off when a 2-yr college coach pulls the same $$ as the head coach of one of the most valuable professional teams on the planet.

My humble .02 would be to gauge how well Cliff does at AZ. If he is seen as successful, I think the correlation to Riley would be very strong and difficult to keep him here. If Cliff fails It could have the same affect as Stoops supposedly shying away from the NFL due to Spurrier's experience. All conjecture on my part.

Riley strikes me as the kinda guy that might actually like to go to the NFL eventually. Will he leave even before he has a chance to play for and win a NC? Hope not

I am like CT on this. I think Riley wants to build his own legacy at OU and will be in Norman for years to come. He may eventually get the itch for the NFL but it will be way down the road in my opinion.

No. He makes 6MM a year and he knows he is a perfect fit for college football and at OU.
We heard the same BS for Bob Stoops.

live with it.

Much more job security at the college level, plus he's making as much or more than most NFL coaches, so I'm thinking he'll be around for at least 5-6 more years. Unfortunately, something tells me he'll want to "stick his toe in the water" with the NFL someday.

i think you've nailed it bomber. if he gets to the champ game or wins a natty i suspect he'd then be more likely to entertain pro offers. probably a win actually.

what do you mean "BS" and "live with it" BM? i simply put out a question with an opinion and you come off like i want Riley to go. i'd like him to stay til he retires. i'd appreciate less confrontational responses if you dont mind.

I doubt he leaves..... Why go work for Jerry Jones or some other narcissist billionaire that believes he knows more about football than LR.....

OU is a destination job , LR knows that, LR is at OU for the duration.....

Yep.. he's at a billionaire school.

Chip Kelly failed. Kingsbury will fail (not your fault Kyler).

Lincoln is a potential legend at the collegiate level and if history suggests correctly, an offensive coordinator in the NFL.

I guess you could add Nick Saban to that list. A lot of it depends on the organization and ownership. A coach can only do so much

Like the Stoops, the Riley’s desire stability for their children. Mrs Riley has said that she doesn’t want her children growing up in a large city. Both Riley have spoken about the desires of living close to other family members.

Green bay where Lincoln was scheduled to interview at one time before canceling and not Dallas would be OU’s biggest NFL competition... at least until the kids are of college age.

Greater long term finical security will occur by staying in Norman, doing a great job and not jumping to the NFL

Sometimes when I read these threads I don’t think they are started by OU fans....because many said OU was going to nose dive after Bob retired ....but it was those same type of people who were hoping Stoops would leave OU after his first few seasons.

If the Lincoln Riley’s didn’t like OU & Norman they would already be long gone.

With the recent big pay raise all OU needs to do is finish its football stadium projects.

There comes a point where you can overstay at the detriment of the college football program. Bob Stoops is a great example in that he became so complacent that he allowed his brother to destroy a once proud defensive unit.
Riley’s work ethic and time management for himself and his entire football staff is significantly better than what Bob Stoops had who took mid-season vacations and had staff members not working nearly as hard as they should have been.

Riley isn’t going to overstay his stay at OU to the detriment of the OU football program. He has already shown that he is not afraid to make the major changes that Bob would not. He will know on his own when its time for him to move on.

This says it all.
He's making $6 million annually and just had an extension though 2023. Not bad for a 35 year old.
Plus, he's in a "red state" where his income will go further.
At this time, I believe Riley is "all in" about coaching at Oklahoma for the next 5 seasons.
