Yes, and it was one of the final episodes of the overall western expansion starting from this country's beginning that wiped out almost all of the Indian population in North America.
Today, the native American population comprises 1.3% of the US population and living conditions are virtually poor.
I call it genocide....which is at least as immoral as slavery....and this particular case of genocide gets ignored and forgotten by history.
America clearly has a checkered past, but what free country today does NOT have a history of conquest, or slavery, or genocide ? Like Germany, we need to accept the misdeeds our country has had and learn from them to make us better as people. Sanitizing our history, to the extent we are seeing now, should not be an option for achieving historical redemption.
