if any of you were watching the Va Tech -FSU game Herbie showed his top 4. Not surprising he put his Buckeyes at 3 ( guess he didnt realize that Buckeye D gave up 31 points to Oregon St) and then made this comment. “ Oklahoma looked great but you have to take into consideration who they played”

WTF Herbie Oregon St isnt exactly any team worth of note either. I get it that its just week one but again what exactly was impressive about TOSU beating a hapless Oregon St?

Oh well end of rant but homerism at its best from Mr Buckeye. Here is to hoping TCU waxes that Buckeye ass in a couple of weeks so we can see Herbie and his fellow Buckeye fans go into meltdown mode.

Im not saying they are. My point is this is why humans (even folks like Herbie) are incapable of keeping their bias out of their voting process. I would actualy put OU around 7 where they currently are but TOSU would not be ahead or that high based on The weekend games.

Now yes polls are meaningless at this point but the campaigning for positioning has already began without enough games being played. As you say right now its impossible to really seperate a good majority outside I think the no brainer is Alabama at 1. Influence can be a game changer and the committee isnt beyond listening to it.

Thats my point in all of this and if your going to point out one teams opponent and not the other then you are ignoring who your team played ( as Herb is doing ) while trying to use that opponent against the other.

I saw that too and thought wtf? Georgia played the Juggernaut Austin Peay. Oh well, he is just a talking head and always has been as they all are at ESPN. Had he not played for ohio state he would be more biased toward the sec like all the other morons at espin.
Nothing really matters this early in the season. LSU was getting a lot of love after the Convicts vs Coon Asses game. Never understood how they can lay praise at the door of any team this early in the season. Way too early to tell how good anyone is yet including OU. Sorry I gave up Kool-Aid years ago. :D

Herbstreit has been the most pro-OU guy over the last 15+ years. God forbid he doesn't put OU in his top 4 after one game as OU fans will turn on him in an instant. Good grief.

Its not that he did not put them in the top 4 its what he said. I don't care if he is pro OU or not does not really matter but when he said you have to look at who OU played, thats laughable considering who Georgia played. Anyway its all for naught, does not really matter right now where you are its where you end up. I am not expecting OU to be a National Title Contender this year, after having high hopes last year and watching Mike Stoops Cock that all up I am done getting my hopes up for that anytime again soon. Sad but true.

His reasoning may not be perfect, but doesn't mean he is injecting bias, homerism, and "Mr Buckeye" like OP is claiming. Short memories around here considering "Mr Buckeye" literally had to leave the state of Ohio cuz of his comments about OSU a handful of years ago and the threats he got from that fanbase.

Austin Peay

In an interview on ESPN on Sunday, after all the games except FSU/VT, Kirk said that Ohio State, Alabama, and Oklahoma looked like the 3 best teams in the country.

These guys cant remember what they said from one day to the next. ( example Sunday vs Monday night) Btw BR I am well aware of Herbs somewhat like for OU I was just pointing out his comment when in fact UGA, TOSU, and others played bad teams. If your going to call out one team you better have the balls to call out the other teams.

CT not really worried about his opinion overall just think His comment was stupid on his part.

I may be a bit arrogant but I rank based on what I think and don’t pay much attention to talking heads or polls until late in the year when they really count. I don’t even rank a team seriously until mid-October. Preseason rankings are a crap shoot at best except for a very few.

Exactly on point in regards to rankings. It takes more than a few games to really being able to seperate teams and even then it still comes fown to peoples own criteria. I normally dont pay any of those talking heads much attention until I hear them make stupid comments.

Its really funny how some so called experts went from saying FAU could pull off the upset to now being a “ look who they played” team.

Who cares about rankings after week 1? None of this matters now. When OU won it all in 2000, they started the season ranked 20th.

I will just leave it at this. Its not about the rankings its about his “ look who they played comment” without doing the same in regard to the Buckeyes and others.

YEP! Let's hope every opponent OU plays this season has the talking heads saying "look who they played" because we hung 1/2 a hundred on them. LOL

That was my point too not the rankings when Herbie showed his top 4, didn't care but it was what he said that was laughable.

Clemson beat Furman (can anyone even name their mascot?) by a lesser margin than OU versus a supposedly game offense.

And yet Bama and Clemson are clearly the top two teams in the country, according to lazy opinions everywhere.

Furman's athletic teams are called the Paladins. So, the next question might be, "What's a Paladin?" A Paladin is a knight of extraordinary chivalry, bravery and valor.

These early games really don’t gauge crap for later but made Auburn, LSU, ND, and VA Tech sure look good for the over played “eye test”. Here is rundown of the updated Top 10 Coaches Poll and week 1 results.

We've burned the Herbster a time or two by falling apart down the stretch after looking like the best team in the country early. Think Tennessee 2014. Also why I'm still not all in on WVU.

Herbie's earned some cautious optimism and in regards to what he said specifically, yeah we should blow out FAU. I think everybody was impressed but so much still to learn.

Dabo is legit, and he's gonna get love until he proves the world wrong. I'm not much for comparisons, but he seems to have a little bit of that Switzer trait in him. Kids and parents love it.
