I want to take my son to his first Sooner game in Norman. I am thinking the West Virginia game would be a good choice. I see club seats on stubhub for 300 and lower seats in section 5 for 400. I'm sure there might be some bettwr options. Anyone have any ideas?

But I'm no expert, just 'highly frugal'. One guy's opinion...
Good answer. I checked it and found some better deals already. I want to make this a special event for my son. We live in Florida and the only game he has seen live is the OU FSU game in 2011. He looked at me and said, "Dad are we going to win!". I knew I had him hooked then. Can't get him away from the TV during the games. A trip to Norman would be fantastic for him. Thanks for the help.

Love it when another youngster becomes a Sooner. Never too early. Hope you find a deal and enjoy the game. Boomer!

My first live game was Nebraska 1992. Bleh! 33-9 Nebraska.

My dad wasn't into college ball, so I was 15 before I found a couple friends and their fathers to tag along with.
The fathers got themselves a couple good seats and got the 3 of us kids the cheapest nosebleed, endzone seats.
I remember us not being very interested after the 3rd quarter (and being 14/15 year olds without supervision) when it was 19-9, so we went to that old hamburger joint / arcade on campus corner to play video games through the fourth quarter.

The game sucked, but the experience was awesome. That was the day I knew I was going to OU even if I had to turn down academic and athletic scholarships to other schools.

Can you believe Harvey is affecting us out here in Malibu?

Apparently the US supply of argon is produced in Houston. We were just told that our suppliers will only be supporting 20% of our standard order. That puts us out of argon in about 3 weeks. Just about every semiconductor and lab process requires argon for something.

We're panicking.

The tickets you are seeing for sale this early are scalpers looking to make a large profit.
If they sell them now, awesome.
If they don't sell them now, they still have plenty of time.
Those prices are artificially elevated.
I'd bet some of them don't even have tickets in hand, they just know if they can get someone willing to pay $300 - $400 for them, they will be able to get some cheaper and make a tidy profit.
Just wait another 6-8 weeks.
I've bought tickets to lots of OU games. In 40 years, the only game I was not able to find decent priced tickets for was the LSU Sugar Bowl game.

That is great information. I assume that applies to online resellers. What about the ticket exchange on the board?

It applies to anyone trying to get 2X, 3X, 4X face value 2-3 months before the game.
Unless both OU and WVA are undefeated after about 10-11 games, ticket prices will be reasonable closer to the game date.

Coming from as far as you are, I know the fear is getting to Norman without tickets assured. Your son will have a better time if you sit with the masses than in a club section, IMO.

I've never paid more than face value for any ticket in Norman. The only time I've paid more than face for any OU game was the CCG against Nebraska in Dallas in 2010, and almost every Texas ticket I've ever bought.

I almost always wait til game day. Now you have some decisions to make. You can get a pair for under face for sure, if you're willing to wait til 30 minutes before kickoff. But I like getting there in time to see the whole pregame. If I was coming that far, I want to see the special teams guys walking out onto an otherwise empty field 80 or 90 minutes before kickoff. Depends on the game.

West Virginia is late enough in the season that you might find some tickets for well below face value if the weather is a challenge. And obviously, tickets in section 5 are going to go for more than those in section 38. But you're not going to know kickoff time until the second week of November at the earliest. If the game is at night, then sun location doesn't matter. That late, it might not anyway.

But whatever the seat, you're going to pay more for a ticket 90 minutes before kickoff than you will 30 minutes prior. Unless OU goes undefeated and West Virginia is contending for a spot in the CCG, you will be guaranteed a pair for below face value 30 minutes before kickoff. Most likely an hour, which gets you in for most of pre-game.

I've paid less than 200 the last two times I bought Texas tickets. You sure don't have to pay that for a West Virginia ticket in Norman. Try to get to the stadium area at least two hours before kickoff, to get a decent parking place and pursue your tickets. The closer to the stadium, the less expensive the tickets available.

Good luck. And if you post on the two OU sites that have ticket boards what you're doing, you'll likely have some face offers early. Some sellers avoid that, because scalpers say that stuff all the time. But most Sooner fans, if they have season tickets but can't make that day for whatever reason, would love to sell their tickets to you. Most just want face back, and avoid the hassles.

Good luck.

I see you are looking for tickets on the OU side. Don't worry about the OU side. The only place that is not OU's is the small block allotted for the visitors. Since the renovation, I'm not sure exactly where visitors are now, but they used to be on the south end of the east stands and the west side of the south end zone.
Thanks for the information.

Yeah I've driven from iowa to Norman a few times and never missed a game, well below face value. RE: the visitor side. Now they ARE IN SEC22 hence the departure of our long time friend and former Mod. He's still pissed !
