Good one, SS! I'm in San Pedro Garza Garcia right now, and Cinco De Mayo is just not a "thing" down here. I was surprised. :)
My sources say it's more of a 'Melican Thang, V...I'm not worried about YOU, tho'...With your Savvy, you'll parlay anything into Party-Time, right?
And it doesn't matter how much ANY of us over-partied, last night, or how lousy we feel, today...It's not as bad as Maximum Security's Owner/Trainer/Jockey...:(

Lol its a made up Holiday in the US so Corporate America can make money. Cinco de Mayo is about the Victory over the French in 1862 I believe is the year for the Battal de Puebla and is only celebrated in the State of Puebla. For the rest of Mexico its just another day. Most Americans stupidly think Cinco de Mayo is Mexico's Independence Day but that is on Sept.16th. This video shows how Mexico celebrates Cinco de Mayo. Anyhow I grilled me a big ol Filet and had some Vino yesterday. :D

Just goes to show you how dumb most people are in America. Celebrating a Mexican Holiday here that nobody Celebrates there. They should rename it here to Cinco de Drinko. And as far as beating the limp wristed French lol thats no big feat, everyone walks all over the French. . Ha ha

It's the one day of the year to celebrate Mexican heritage. Considering how many of Mexican descent we have in the US, I think it's not a a bad thing. It's less about the original reason for the celebration and more a Mexican heritage festival in the US now.

Also, the leader in charge of the Mexican resistance in Puebla was from Texas if I recall correctly. The Battle of Puebla was one of the few battles against the French. It was eventually through American support that the Mexicans were finally able to drive off the French.

I don't have an issue with it at all just that if people are going to Celebrate it at least know what its about, most people think its a Celebration of Mexico's Independence which its not. If you are going to celebrate a Holiday at least have enough respect to the people of that Heritage to know exactly which Celebration it is for but to me its silly to Celebrate it at all if its not Celebrated in the Country of origin.

I’ve never even considered Cinco de Mayo a day to celebrate. It’s was just a day to use as an excuse for my wife to go out and drink after work with my buds. St. Patrick’s Day was another. LOL

Technically, that seems to be the point of most holidays these days. St Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day, The Fourth of July, Labor Day, Halloween - all drinking holidays with their own twists.

I have an AT A GLANCE appointment book. This Friday, according to my AAG, 5-10 is Mother's Day in Mexico.

Who knew?
