I'll concentrate on the tech game. Can't really beat up BV for his decisions from yesterday. I remarked in the "game thread" seeing the DL getting pressure and the LB's in their fits. By the 2nd quarter, back to LB's anticipating where to attack instead of reading and reacting. LB's also continued to be late on their reads in pass coverage and OU gave up the edge too many times. Broiles and other defenders still taking bad angles. Proper angle of pursuit and staying on the ball carrier's back hip are fundamentals collegiate players shouldn't struggle with, especially late in the season.
Almost 700 yards of offense are all-time records at most schools so I can't really beat up Lebby. His conservative calls on 3rd down still are frustrating. Issues with the trick plays were the timing. The fake FG was with OU up 14 points. I'd of taken a for sure 3 score game over the possible 21 point lead. The play was there but the pass was dropped. In OT, the reverse throwback to DG picked up 13 yards but probably lost OU the game along with poor blocking by Harrison. An ugly duck of a pass by Stoops allowed a heavy hit on our QB. We had to waste 1st down with the wildcat while DG sat a play and then smartly tt sent the house after DG when he came back in. Both passes were so ugly it appeared they didn't practice the plays much.
I wrote more than I intended but the defense regressing back to poor technique and slow reaction is the old culture you can trace back to FUMS that I spoke of in a post a couple of weeks ago. We witnessed that culture had changed until midway through the ksu game. Need to develop a culture of expectations of success. Oh, the FG attempt looked good!
