I think in these next two games we are going to find out if we have a great Head Coach in Lincoln Riley or just the game's best Offensive Coordinator. I am not sure we know yet the answer to this question. How much of Lincoln's success to this point has just been having an offensive plan that could overcome bad defense and immense offensive talent to accomplish it most of the time?
In spite of all the struggles this year, every goal this team had in the preseason is still right in there for the taking. This team controls it's own destiny to win the Big12. Do that and maybe the playoff awaits, but winning the Big 12 is always the preseason goal as it is a requirement for the playoff.
Can he bring this team together to get it done? Can he take all the negative talk and use it as motivation for this team? Can he get this team in the mindset that no one believes in them and get them to play with a chip on their shoulder?
Can he convince a team that obviously has confidence issues on the defensive side of the ball that no matter what has happened to this point they are right where they want to be? Can he get this team to not focus on one game at a time, but rather one play at a time? Can he get this team to focus on the next play and let the previous play go, whether that previous play was great or terrible?
For all the issues Bob had over the years, he thrived in moments like this. He would often be to blame for a team having its back against the wall like this, but I am convinced if Bob Stoops was coaching this team at this point in time they would win the next two games.
We are about to find out if we have a great Head Coach in Lincoln or just the game's best Offensive Coordinator. Should be interesting to find out.
