Good Read...Jalen Hurts

Jalen isn't Baker or Kyler. But not many are. He still possesses the skill set to be as successful as the former were. I don't expect the gaudy stats, though still good, as he'll rely more on his teammates while he distributes and leads.

Everything that Baker and Kyler could have accomplished with a more balanced team, Jalen can as well.

Hurts has the opportunity to have something his predecessors didn't, possibly a decent defense. I think Hurts will do well enough but I do feel like we may have to rely on our defense to help out some this year and keep the shootouts to a minimum if possible.

Agree.
I will always be haunted by the fact that during the Mayfield-Murray years, it was a lack of defense that kept OU from achieving at least two national championships.
September 1st will require defending an explosive Houston offense with a defense lacking depth and with a secondary that is still under construction.
Time consuming drives will be important as well and that will require having a solid offensive line, which is also under construction. Houston's offense needs to be on the sidelines as much as possible.
Grinch and Bedenbaugh have a lot of work to do.

I wouldn't predict anything with his skills and Lincoln's offense. I would hate to put a box around this situation prematurely. Kyler didn't exactly standout as some superstar during his time at aTm. Baker was a decent Tech QB, but I'm not sure anyone believed that would translate to success at OU.

There's a lot more tape on Hurts, though it is mostly pretty damn good. I'm just saying that, at this point, we've got a pretty good read on his accuracy. It's nothing to sneeze at but Baker and Kyler made throws that a lot of good quarterbacks can't make.

Hurts will be better under Riley. That I'm confident in. And I'm thrilled to have him leading the guys this season.

Absolutely couldn't agree more. Truly sickening and I can't necessarily realistically expect us to see qb play at that level maybe ever? Those were record setting qb's. I never thought Mayfield would be duplicated but then Murray came along and added that running element........unreal.

IMO.....OU will be a different offense with Jalen at QB. That doesn’t mean worse, just different. I have confidence in Riley’s ability in adapting to Jalen’s skills and playing to his strengths. I’m looking forward to a very interesting and evolving season on both sides of the ball. BOOMER!
Agree.....and maybe the offense will be designed to use a little more time off the clock. Sometimes a good offense can be the best line of defense.

Five things Jalen doesn't have that Kyler did.
1. Cody Ford
2. Bobby Evans
3. Dru Samia
4. Ben Powers
5. Passing Accuracy

Having said this, I think he'll end up being a good game manager and our defense will improve just enough to make up this difference.

I think Rattler will be the guy by mid-season.
Interesting take and may be spot on. I'm hoping for the best for Hurts and will be rooting him in but I really don't feel comfortable with the thought of having to win shootouts with him compared to Mayfield and Murray. Hoping he proves me wrong and hope the defense is much improved.

It's precisely because of those top four that Jalen is the exact QB we need! He'll be top 10 in the nation when it comes to accuracy. Just because we had the two most accurate passers in NCAA history, people want to say he's not accurate. He's hungry and he's going to be the best QB we could possibly have for this year.

I’m hoping for many long, successful touchdown drives. Great TD success in the Red Zone while the defense limits the number of big offensive plays. 20+ defensive turnovers would be nice, too. Am I reaching? You’re welcome.

Like I said, and it's pretty cool that Jalen outperformed Tua and Lawrence. Tua had a great game. I've never seen 332 yards passing with an 87% completion percentage. I'm very happy with 251.3 passing efficiency, passer rating of 307.5 and a QBR of 96.8! Go Sooners!

He is our flagship. Jalen knows what it takes. A solid competitor who knows stats are not everything. This guy is the rock the waves crash into. Once he gets his passing rhythm down...who in this conference stops Jalen. I say nobody. A leader to the core with so many weapons.

Riley knows what he is doing and why he went after Hurts, gave us a great chance to maybe get over the hump with the hopes of help from the D that it could hapen. So far its working out great.
Too bad Grinch was not here sooner than now but I aint complaining, he is here now and thats all that matters.
How spoiled are we to have had the past 2 QB's we have had Baker and Murray and the current one, Hurts? Wow!
