He received a 5 year extension today and he's earned it in my opinion.
Playing in the shadow of OU and rarely having a top-25 recruiting class, Gundy in 17 years has a 143-67 record and is OSU's best coach ever.
Gundy's current team is 6-0 and fun to watch. They face a good Iowa State team on the road tomorrow.
I expect an OU-OSU game for the ages on 11/27.....and perhaps a rematch in the Big 12 Championship Game.

I got a feeling that Mike Gundy did a dance once he heard OU and Texas were moving to the SEC. OSU always had a shot to win the B12 but with OU out of the way, it's a real possibility, very real, maybe even be the favorite in most years going forward.

He is a good coach, but I am leaning towards the Cyclones. They are on the upswing

Cincinnati's sudden rise gives Ohio two good programs now.
As for their regular season schedule, I expect Cincinnati to run the table. The SMU-Cincy game next month could be interesting and I'll be rooting for SMU.

He actually got a rolling five year deal. Like Switzer had. After each year, another year was automatically added.

OSU will become a big dog in the B12 once OU leaves.
However, OSU, Cincy, Baylor(?) won't have the fire power to keep the B12 a Power 5 conference.
This is the beginning of 4 super conferences. There will be more realignment and OSU will likely be part of it.
But, I believe we are headed to four super conferences of 16 teams each.
Each conference with two 8 team divisions.
Football quarterfinals will be conference championships.

He really does seem like a douche bag. And more than a few OSU fans are not happy about this deal, I can assure you.

Indeed. And if I were a fan of a second-tier stepping stone school, I’d be perfectly happy with a coach who could win consistently, but probably would never get an offer from a big time program. But that is not the hand I’ve been dealt.

He seems like a jerk, true, but not he's not as bad as Urban Meyer or Briles or a host of other coaches that have done really terrible things.

And like someone said, playing in the shadow of the greatest college football program in history, it's nothing short of a miracle he's got the cowboys winning every year. He's a damn fine football coach.

Reminds me of when Dave Rader was the HC at Tulsa way back when. Should have been a long term marriage. Rader would have stayed at Tulsa until he retired. Once he won a few games at Tulsa, the brilliant leaders decided he had reached his maximum potential and fired him. Not sure they ever reached that level of success again. If they did, it was just a stepping stone to a better deal. The only thing keeping Montgomery in Tulsa right now is they have not yet had that once in a career big successful season. First time he wins 9-10 games and beats a good team in a bowl, he will be gone.
OSU should keep Gundy as long as he is willing to stay. He is going to win even more games and will win many conference championships, once OU and TX are gone from the B12.
