Drew....just for you...the girls are playing the #3 team in the nation in BB tonight at home.

Are you watching?

Wtg Ladies!!! So proud of this team!! They had a great game plan, played outstanding defense, made some big time shots, and stayed composed when Baylor took a 6 point lead!!! Great win!!

This legitimizes the women as the second best team in the conference. And a top 20 team with a group that has only one contributing senior. They are getting better weekly. I think they have a great chance to be a sweet 16 team.
I didn't get to watch tonight, but I looked at the play by play, and will get to watch the reply in an hour.

Baylor is really good. This is a great win.

If you saw the first game Plaino ( or even if you didn't ), you are going to be very impressed with Sherri's game plan!! Sharane provided such leadership tonight, but that young team is feisty! Good stuff all around!!

I watched the first game and my thoughts didn't change much. I think that Baylor is taller and more athletic at all five positions, starter vs five starters. I still think that.

I think OU had a great game plan. I think they've grown. I think they got a few breaks. And I think they play a lot better when they have an officiating crew that lets the game flow. In the first half, neither team had committed seven team fouls by the under 4:00 time out. Normally, when the other guys are more athletic, you'd prefer the game be called tight. Especially when you have good depth. But Sherri made a decision a little over a week ago and I think it has helped.

Ortiz is now playing 18 minutes per half and I think they pretty much need that. The other freshman PG just isn't there yet. Not a knock on her, but she is a huge defensive liability, and is too careless too often with the ball.

But this wasn't about game plan so much as just a colossal effort by Sharane C-O. She made two or three clutch threes when the offense wasn't doing anything otherwise midway second half, and her battling bigger girls which she has to do since she's playing four, and more than just holding her own was the key to the game.

Both teams had a couple of bad breaks from officials. But it was interesting. Baylor's girls did a lot of complaining when they bodied somebody hard and got called for a foul, when most teams would have suffered the same call. It was like after 25 in a row, they thought their stuff didn't stink.

Really nice crowd.

Sherri really tightened up playing time. There are several players who just haven't been very productive when playing. When I've seen them screw up, I yell at the tv set. Tonight, they combined for about eight minutes I think, which is they way they're going to have to play against top competition.

They are going to still I think be challenged to make the top 16, which would get them two home games in the first two rounds of the tournament, because of a less than stellar pre conference performance. But if they can take care of business, and say no worse than split the next two and then make the conference tourney finals, then they should have a great chance. But it would be better if they could win the next four which would put them into the conference finals, and should make the top 16.

It would be really nice if Gioya could find her shot in the next week. She had a nice drive tonight, but her long range stuff has suffered most of the last month. I know the she's getting more attention from the defense, but I thought tonight that most of that was geared toward Little. Baylor's length can help them do that.

I thought that Toby was glossing over the second half the the game in Waco, talking about "the Sooners scored at will in the second half." That's not what I saw. I saw Baylor blow them out to lead by 30 plus then let their backups finish it off, and the Sooners found some breathing room cutting the final down to a deceiving 23 point final margin. But that only makes what the accomplished tonight, to be of more value.

They had a great start, though the replay didn't show it until we were up 6-2. I'm taping the overnight replay on FSW and will get to watch the whole thing again tomorrow. And I didn't think Baylor played very well and had key players deal with a lot of foul trouble.

But OU missed Kaylon for key stretches too, and they managed, despite an already glaring size disadvantage. I don't think this team has a prayer of advancing past the round of 16, but if they do get home court, they'd have a solid shot to make it to play the second weekend.

The politics of women's hoops is likely the most pronounced of any NCAA sport for a lot of reasons. So even if they deserve it, I'm not sure the Sooners will get home court. But if they do, it will be a great end for a very young team that is tons better than it was going 6-5 before conference play started.

But my plan right now, having been so impressed with how they've play, is to see my first ever game at Lloyd Noble this Saturday, if the weather doesn't prohibit the trip. We'll see. I really enjoy watching this team. I watch them on TV more than the men. For me, the old staunch detractor of Title IX, that's saying something.

OK. Now,, let's hear from a fan who does actually follow women's basketball.

OU did what they were supposed to do. OU is a young team that has been on the verge of breaking out since Christmas. They played a difficult schedule early and learned what they needed to do. They had the pieces to get better. What they had not yet done was to turn the corner. Last night, OU may have finally turned that corner.

OU beat a Texas team that was #5 at the time, and should have beaten them on their home court as well. OU's losses have been on the road against some decent teams, and OU should probably have won most of them. They just hadn't had the pieces come together. What was interesting about last night is that OU did not have a great night. We didn't see Peyton go off for thirty or Gioya go five of seven from three point range. Everyone had a rather typical night. Nothing special. They just didn't have bad nights. They didn't rise to a new level. They simply played like they had been there, like they belonged. If Peyton had had one of her hot shooting nights, they might have won by thirty.

When they played within themselves, Baylor was no better than they were. Baylor's team is not a set of great players. They are a team that is deigned to take advantage of your failures. If you don't screw up, Baylor has difficult b eating you. For some reason, Baylor has fits with Kansas. Kentucky came back from ten down at the half to beat Baylor by ten. Baylor can be had. It's just that this was a down year for the top teams in the Big Twelve, most of whom lost a lot, and they made mistakes. Last year, we had a team that really didn't have faith. This year, we have some players with a mindset thatt we haven't had recently.

Don't be surprised if we win eight of the next ten with Baylor. We have some talent that is still developing, and it is better than what Baylor has. We also have some talent coming in that will present a problem for Baylor. But, mostly, this team is beginning to learn how good they can be. If OU shows up, Baylor has difficulty.

Sybarite, do you really think OU will beat Baylor in the conference tournament?

Baylor has sagged a little recently. They barely beat Texas in Austin. And even more attention getting, less than two weeks ago, they only won in Lubbock by seven.

They do have some attitude problems that boiled up last night. The technical foul on Prince was a big play. It was her third foul and it affected her the rest of the night. But she still has a sweet jump shot. And their great big girl knocked people around then whined when a foul was rightly called.

We'll see how things play out. We beat them four at home after they just slaughtered us in Waco. We gave them their only conference loss in a tight game. OU has four conference losses, all but the one in Austin by eight points or more. I'd agree that we got hosed at UT.

I dislike Baylor women's basketball so much, that I pull for Texas when they play them. But even the Sooner broadcasters said that Baylor was bigger and more athletic as a team.

I read every word in today's Waco Tribune-Herald. Virtually no credit whatsoever to the Sooners. Just a bunch of talentless bimbos who stumbled into a victory. The infinitely superior Baylor team just didn't play their game.

They expressed the same sentiments in the post-game interviews. I hope they keep believing that. As long as they do, we win.

Baylor is like feeding sharks. They are in a frenzy if they smell blood. But, they are often rather passive if there is no blood or display of fear. They depend upon your errors in order to open up the floor where they can drive to the bucket. IF you make none, they are not a good shooting team. So, they have difficulty scoring unless it is off of your mistakes. Settle down. Don't make any. Don't let them get their frenzy going.

Good analysis everyone!! I too, follow both the men and women, and in fact this is my first year of not having season basketball tickets for both, due to a lot of commitments on game days. I still make many of the games!! So, I have to say after the second half of the first Baylor game, I expected last night to be much different. After watching how they had progressed and watching Baylor, I was actually surprised with the first half of the first game. But, we had so many turnovers and got so far behind so fast, we looked like a very young team that were plagued by a big bundle of nerves. When they were able to hang with them and just play their game in the second half, I knew it would give their confidence a real boost for last night.

Plaino, they were totally frustrated by our team's defense inside the paint. Mulkey and the Baylor press did not give them much credit, and even blamed their slack off , as having won the big 12 already. The fans cried foul on the refs too lol!! But, OU was ready for them. They are bigger and more physical, but they were simply unable to penetrate our team's packing of the paint, and the way they were colapsing on their bigs! They even sorta looked at Mulkey like help tell us what to do! OU got back in transition so fast and they were forced outside! Last game, 52 points were in the paint! The first game OU had so many turnovers and last night they had very few, which was key!! This team has gotten better and better. I would never count them out at the tournament. That said, at this point, I would agree Baylor probably has slightly more talent overall, but we have got some gamers, and some good players coming in next year. OU deserved that win and they caused Baylor's struggles!!

Sybarite, I agree with you too! Like Sherri eloquently put it, it didn't matter the score, although it was great to win, but they played like an Oklahoma team should. As she said, they were putting the pieces together and "becoming". I thought their defense was really good last night. Offensively they weren't as great as they can be, but it is here I will give Baylor some credit. They were trying to take away our bigger strength, and had some success, but we outplayed them. When they went ahead we didn't panic and made shots. We totally took away their game and they were frustrated. If we play again, I would fully except both teams to be ready. If OU could get a hot hand or two, stay out of foul trouble, and play that consistently on defense, I would like our chances. But, they are vicious if they smell blood!!! We would need to get off to a great start and not have many turnovers.

Plaino, it sounds like the weather may not cooperate, but I hope you get to see them play at the LNC sometime! It is fun to go to the tournament too!! If you do decide, drive safely!!

I'm just proud of this team and the coaches!!! It was a great win!!

Plaino, OU has four conference losses. Nearest competitor has eight. Two of the four losses were in OT. At Iowa State, we lost in OT with Kaylon, Sharane, and Maddie fouling out. Gioya and Gabbi had four fouls. They pretty much got rid of our experienced players inside. Against Texas in OT, Kaylon, Maddie, Sharane, and Gioya fouled out. Interesting that we had two OT losses in which Sharane, Kay Kay, and Maddie fouled out. Maddie has fouled out of two games, our OT losses.

We never have figured out how to get to Morgantown, and we never have figured out why we should bother going to Waco.

I decided to stay home. Darn it. I guess I can see them next week in Dallas. But I really was hoping to see three games Saturday.

Well Plaino, the roads aren't good, and I am glad you are safe!!! Baylor is in some trouble at Iowa State! I think they watched our game! Hope you can watch them in Dallas!!

Which loss as worse: Iowa State over Baylor, or Kansas over OU? Kansas is fighting to stay out of the cellar.

Definitely the OU loss!! It s a bad home loss and really disappointing! I always think our losses are worse, but in the grand scheme of things, this loss won't help our seeding. and Baylor's won't hurt them as much. Seemed like they were really lacking energy tonight! I didn't go because of roads, so I did not start watching or looking at the score, until the game was shown on tv. I just finished the game. Our shots weren't falling, we couldn't get stops, they had way too many rebounds, and they couldn't miss at the line. I think though Iowa State, did really exploit Baylor's weaknesses again, and I do think from what I saw of that game, they seemed to follow a similar game plan to beat them. Wish we could have won it on senior night , and kept our home streak alive!! I think maybe there was too much celebrating and then taking this one a little too light. Unfortunately, that happens sometimes, especially with young teams.

On Sherri's show after the Baylor win, Toby asked her the key to victory, and she said forgetting about Baylor was the number one thing.

Don't know. Haven't got to see it yet. I also think it's a really bad idea to change tip off time on game days. And I think it might give the visitors a little advantage. They are all together on the road with most of what they do overseen by the coaching staff. For senior day, the home team players have a lot going on, and each is adjusting individually. I haven't watched the game yet. Don't know if I'll get to since the reply of the ISU - Baylor game overlapped the new starting time and I don't know how Fox handled the broadcast.

But it didn't help. I think there is a good chance that unless OU wins the conference post season tournament, that this loss will cast them hosting the first two rounds of the NCAAs.
