OK guys, as promised, some notes for you all to peruse in lieu of the Scoop.
*First, as I discussed earlier this week Oklahoma and Calvin Bundage could be going in different directions. I took his cancellation of his trip earlier this week as a sign of something along those lines and after talking to some sources it's clear that Oklahoma is still pursuing one of the state's most highly sought after seniors.
However, in talking to some people and just connecting the dots in my mind, I think there is clearly a hierarchy to Oklahoma's recruiting and I think right now the push is definitely for Marvin Terry and then to see things play out with five-star linebacker Caleb Kelly.
As I've said time and time again Kelly is a guy Oklahoma will wait for as long as possible and I'm not sure Terry is that far off from the same scenario.
The good news for Oklahoma is that Bundage seems to want to take his time so things can kind of play out naturally rather than any type of game of deflection.
*Speaking Terry and Kelly, I continue to hear a lot of confidence - particularly for the former. At several times over the past few weeks Terry has seemed on the cusp of a decision. However in talking to a few sources it sounds like he may want to take his official visit before coming to any decision.
The question is does he want to take all of his officials or when he hits up Oklahoma for the Oct. 2 game will that be the end of the show?
I'm betting on the latter as it's been explained to me that he'd just like make his decision during a trip.
We'll see what happens though.
As for Kelly again I think Oklahoma would be the choice if he came down today but there is no question the impending situation with Chip Viney plays a role in all of this as we watch it play out.
*I've heard some rumors this week on Oklahoma getting back involved with recent Oregon decommitment Theo Howard and checked around with a few people on the topic.
Now, before anyone starts getting too many sugar plums dancing in their head there is a LONG way to go before Oklahoma would even be considered a contender, or as one source put it "we weren't talking to him when he committed because he wasn't showing much interest".
However it's clear, in talking to some sources, that Dennis Simmons has already been trying to see where Oklahoma might stand.
Again it's all preliminary but it's clear that Simmons is the type of guy who will leave no stone unturned and the nation's No. 70 player, and one of my real mancrushes for 2016, is further evidence.
*Speaking of a silent player I spoke to a couple of sources that have direct knowledge of the Rivals100 defensive end/outside linebacker Brandon Bowen situation in hopes of gleaming some hope of what the guy was thinking and the response was, "He is as much a mystery to us as every reporter".
*Of all of last weekend's visitors, a contingent from both Southmoore as well as John Marshall, the one who came away seemingly the most pleased about where he was with the Sooners was Southmoore's 2017 WR/ATH Quindon Lewis.
"It went good, really good," Lewis said. "I enjoyed talking to coach (Lincoln) RIley."
It seems the Sooners, who had a chance to see Lewis both at their one-day camp as well as out at the Mustang Metro Team Camp this summer, have taken a shine to Lewis at receiver.
Now he has a lot to prove at the position but as a guy with good speed and length he can become an Oklahoma target as a junior. He'll simply be another in a talented 2017 class that has to start making the big plays that his talent says he can.
