Friday good for Sooner softball. Huge game 1 win. Beat Ole Miss 11-8 in game 2.

The Sooners faced outclassed Incarnate Word in four and a half innings 14-0 after scoring 11 in the first inning.

In game two, postponed five hours by weather delay, and then 15 minutes more when a row of lights went out, the Sooners scored four in the first and two in the second, and after four, lead Ole Miss, 8-2 in a tournament in Houston. Paige Parker is pitching game two.

Of note, Sooner freshman pitcher of a year ago, Brittany Finney, came into the game in the second to play first base, and struck out in her first at bat against Parker. The Sooners play two against the host Houston Cougars tomorrow.

Nicole Pendley, who is hitting .524 so far, led off the game with a home run.

Game two is 8-3 into B6. Interesting game for number two pitcher Paige Lowary who entered the game with two outs in the 4th. She walked their fastest girl in the 5th. She went to third on one wild pitch and scored on an infield out. But the weirdest play of the night came when a Lowary pitch slipped out of her hand and went to second base, instead of the plate.

She's also hit two batters and walked a couple in 1.2 innings so far. Just hit another, including Finney. Two on, one out in B6. Both runners from HBP.

Sooners scored three in T7 and lead 11-3 heading to the last of the last. Lowary had another of those pitches that went backwards to create second and third with both on via HBP. But with one out, Arnold nailed a runner at the plate and Paige got out of the sixth with no more damage. She's allowed no hits, but walked two, hit three batters and thrown four wild pitches. Three outs to go. In two and a third, she's thrown 56 pitches.

Ole Miss has scored five in the seventh, and with two outs, Lopez, who's faced five and gotten two outs, and just gave up a homer, after Lowary allowed the first two to reach in the inning, needs one more out. Nobody on,, two out. Lopez was a dominant high school pitcher, but she's finding this a new experience in her first inning against a P5 team.

Finney hit the three run homer.

Ole Miss got one more runner on an infield hit, to get the tying run to the on deck circle, but Lopez struck out the number two hitter to end it. Sooners win 11-8, after allowing five in the seventh.

So the Sooner women go 4-0 against SEC teams on Friday. OU Wrestling had a big win. Baseball won their opener. So a 7-0 day overall for Sooner athletics.

Beat LSU, UGa and Mizzou in Gymnastics. Softball 2-0 with one of the wins over Ole Miss. Wrestling smoked Oregon State on Senior Night, winning eight of ten matches. And baseball opened the season with a transplanted win over a top 20 team.
