ESPN pandering CFP committee to include Bama, junk tOSU

Watching ESPN Sportscenter earlier this morning, a large group of their people are shouting out that the Tide deserve a bid instead of tOSU, stating that "everyone knows" that Cash Cow Alabama really is one of the four best in the field, and hinting that the entire integrity of the selection process would be voided if Bama were excluded.

REALLY? This old troll had no idea. I'm always the last to know....

ESPN DID THIS AT ABOUT THE TIME THE COMMITTEE WAS SCHEDULED TO MEET AT 9 ET.

A blatant effort to corrupt the process. Shame on them. Besides, tOSU is better.


p.s. I think I'll call the Bama by the name of Cash Cow from now on, and use "CCb" as a convenience. (The "CCu" I've reserved for Cotton Candy.)
 
On a positive note, let Alabama get in and get beaten in natty title games in consecutive years. That will help dampen their national image the same way OU getting beaten back to back in 2003/2004 did. Best way to destroy an image, is to get them in there and destroy them on the field.

So I have no problem with Alabama being included.

The issue is the interference by ESPN into the selection process. That's the scary scary part.

Actually I was surprised that the guys on College Football Final were saying Alabama’s weak schedule disqualified the Tide. I agree, and have never thought that Alabama had a championship team this year. The loss to Auburn wasn’t surprising. If for some reason Bama gets in, Clemson should beat them. But they should beat OSU too. Now ESPN is touting Alabama just as you posted. Should not happen.

The PAC12, Big 10 and Big 12 should IMMEDIATELY scrap their conf championship games! Conf champs mean ZIPPO!!

I wouldn't count Clemson over Alabama automatically. The next month off will be pretty big for Alabama's defense healing up. The injuries racked up on Alabama's defense over the season was pretty substantial.

And yup...just saw where it's official Alabama got in.

The Big XII was stupid in voting to include a conference championship game anyways without expansion. It was nothing but a kneejerk reaction to what happened to TCU and Baylor a few seasons ago. With zero regard as to the possible negative implications in the future.

I said “should”, Billy. Nothing is ever automatic in college football. And to your point, there’s a lot of time before the games so plenty of time for these 18-22 year old kids to lose focus or get primed. All I’m interested in is how prepared OU is come game day. That’s a real concern, IMO.

I wouldn't bet on a Saban team losing it's focus. About the only times his teams don't show up in the post season is when they fell short in playing for a natty title. When the natty is on the line, Sabans teams are as mentally ready as any team can be.

It's almost like CCG's are there to help thin the field of candidates, so the selection committee can get their sleep at night.

Bowl Games and CCG's are supposed to be rewards for a fine season. Subverting them by elevating the outcomes of those games as defacto quarterfinal games is just not right.

They should announce the playoff teams after week 13, before the CCG's even get played. This year those teams would have included Clemson and OU, but instead of Bama and Georgia, they would have had to eat the frivolous decision to rank Auburn #2 and Wisconsin at #4.

That would have been fun for them to explain after Clemson stomped Whiskey and OU crushed Aubbie.

CCG's have just as much chance at muddying the waters as they do thinning out the field of candidates. Just like the Big XII title game the other night. The ONLY thing that game was good for was to knock OU out of the playoff. That's it.

While I see both sides of the Bama/OSU argument (I slightly lean OSU given quality of wins), what alarms me is the ESPN SEC propaganda machine. I believe "machine" is the appropriate word. Reminds me a lot of politics, but I won't go there.

What does the continuous propaganda do for rankings, playoff berths, recruiting, etc.? It's impact on the human mind is an interesting deal, even for the most objective individual. IMO, this is a tremendous conflict of interest. I would go as far as to say this is a case of self-fulfilling prophecy.

Slap any other name (non-SEC team) on Bama's resume. Do they really get in?

As OU fans, this has little impact on us...this year.

Not going to disagree with the bigger name schools getting some preferential treatment.

However, Ohio State last year had one loss with wins over higher ranked teams (OU, Michigan, Wisconsin) than what Bama faced this year. Two of those wins (OU and Wisconsin) were on the road. What is Bama's best win this year? At 4 loss Mississippi State? At home against LSU? The only "decent" team they faced dominated them.

We can debate these scenarios all day long. My main point is that the whole ESPN/SEC Network tie does not bode well for a level playing field. ESPN (by far) has the biggest platform in place to "editorialize". It's the whole Notre Dame/NBC relationship from yesteryear on steroids.

For me personally, I hope this moves us toward an eight team playoff.
