Just wanted to share this opening quote from new receivers coach Emmett Jones. He was one of the best
interviews I've been around. I chatted with him one-on-one for a bit after too and will have a deeper dive on him very soon.
“During my high school days, coaching high school football in Dallas 2001-2011 – we patterned ourselves after Oklahoma. Everything we did, it was cut and pasted straight from Oklahoma. From mindset to grit, the style, the physicality, the grit – all of that – it came from the University of Oklahoma. I always said to myself, ‘if I get the chance to work with these guys, that’s a no-brainer.’ I don’t care whatever options I have, whatever current situation I have, that’s a no-brainer for me.’ So it was destined. Just unbelievable.
“I was telling a recruit last night, I’ve got a couple of pictures in my phone of me and my kids – which is in college now – she was probably, like, in the fourth or fifth grade at the time, we were at the Texas-OU game. We were on the OU side and my high school receiver was playing for Texas but I wanted to sit on Oklahoma’s side in maroon and you could see on my face I was locked into everything coach Stoops and coach Venables and those guys were doing down there. So it was a no-brainer.”
Also gave me this great quote a little later on recruiting in Dallas...
"It really gives me a leg up. I can't say names, but I've known a lot of these (prospects) since they were in 8th grade. I have so much trust there... It's like I have my own scouts in Texas in the DFW and Houston area."
