Mrs. Julie continues to fight and get better after her breast cancer diagnosis this past summer, BV says.
Venables was asked about the ‘pink out’ shirts and breast cancer awareness clothing worn by the OU staff on Saturday. The Sooners head coach was asked how his wife, Julie, was doing in the closing question of his postgame presser on Saturday.
Here is what Venables had to say about his wife and her battle:
“She’s great; she’s a fighter,” Venables said. “…You know, obviously when it hits home, it’s personal. You know, it’s a very—it creates a lot of awareness for, hopefully, for everybody.
Again, using this moment and this journey to be a blessing for other people, to create the awareness. As we know, breast cancer’s one of the most beatable cancers there is, but early detection is important. And so, using this moment and our foundation as an opportunity to try to create a pathway to help people with early detection and the awareness that the importance of getting scans and being mindful that way.”
Venables said Mrs. Julie has a treatment coming up and added, “[Julie] will be gone for a couple of weeks. She’s ready for that, and we’ve got a great game plan.”
