*** Spoke to a few sources on Saturdays ‘scrimmage’ and everyone just called it a ‘practice’ more than a scrimmage.

*** The reasoning is because they went “live” a lot less and ran only 70 plays “or so” when normal scrimmages usually have 40 to 50 more plays.

*** Oklahoma also didn’t tackle to ground. A source told me the reasoning, and said, “BV is very serious about making sure there are minimal injuries and that the players have their legs past week three and all season. Seems there was a lot learned from last season across the board.”

*** I’m told several starters were held out. Players like CB Woodi Washington, TE Austin Stogner, to name a few, didn’t take many reps, if any at all, on Saturday. I was told it was predicated on positions that have less depth in their eyes, so OU is working to build more depth at those spots.

*** As of late, I’ve heard a lot about CB Makari Vickers. I’m told he has been not so much a surprise, but that Vickers has been picking things up at a very fast rate and has OU a bit more comfortable with the depth at corner. We have heard a ton about Gentry Williams and Jasiah Wagoner all fall camp, but having Vickers become another option really does help OU behind Woodi Washington.

*** I also have heard that safety Peyton Bowen got a lot of reps on Saturday. No, they didn’t sit Billy Bowman, or even Reggie Pearson, but I’m also told that OU expects PB to get quite a few reps when the season starts in hopes that he can become a huge part of several of their defensive packages.

*** Look, I know there isn’t a ton of stuff here but this is the part of fall camp where things start to ramp up into in-season form. That’s exactly what will happen this week, with what I’m told is called “pre game week” work. That means the Sooners will start to work on several opponents, with the scout team getting the offense and defense looks that they will potentially see against not just ASU, but several other opponents early in the first half of the season. Yes, I expect them to get some RRR looks, and this is a very typical schedule that has been used for years Norman, by the way.

*** OU will also start to practice at the times they will all season long. Because of that, OU will start practicing later on in the afternoon and we won’t get interviews until around 7 pm or so (set for 6:45 ish).

*** That’s what I have but we will get some interesting team and recruiting notes for you all throughout the week.

Stay tuned…

UPDATE 8:55 pm

*** So, I’m told there was a bit of change in how they went today. Was told OU is really focusing on “getting their legs ready for the long season and not wanting anyone injured. Wasn’t a real physical day.”

*** Was also told “really focused on fine tuning things with ones, but never went truly live.”

*** Another source even said they didn’t hit much. This was more mental and getting the younger players mental and physical reps.

*** Still, was told things went as good as one could expect in a practice/scrimmage like this where there wasn’t a lot of live action. Also, OU is now moving into the portion where they start working on opponents tendencies from last years film before they start reeling it in and focusing on Arkansas State starting next weekend.

*** I will continue to ask around on things and get more updates from what I’m told starting tomorrow. But I did want to pass along some general stuff tonight as promised.

*************

*** As usual, this will be where I update the thread on today’s happenings with the Sooners final scrimmage.

*** Also, this is mostly a scrimmage where the young guys are supposed to get most of the reps, according to what I’ve been told.

Not saying they won’t play the older guys and one’s, but I’m told it will be more getting some depth work than anything else, along with situational work.

*** More to come. I will add I’m in Harrah at kids little league showcase until 7 pm. I’ll still work the phones to find out a few things and get you updated as fast as possible.
