UPDATE Weds 4:31 PM

We hinted in my VIP chat that things were getting a bit dicey with Danny Stutsman and his return to OU. That continues to be the case, and now there is starting to be some strong buzz that the Sooners LB is leaning towards the putting his name into the NFL Draft.

We reported in the OP below that there was a strong sense that Stutsman would be returning for the Sooners’ inaugural season in the SEC (On Monday). So much so that there was some NIL movement to try and make sure there was some comfortability for Stutsman to stick around, but even with that being the case, it now seems to be trending towards the NFL, per multiple sources. Shows you how volatile this has been behind the scenes.

That brings the Alamo Bowl into question and whether or not Stutsman will play on December 29th. As of today, I’m told that he is likely to sit out and begin his preparations for the NFL. Again, assuming he does in fact declare for the draft.

This brings us to the portal and if OU will look at LB’s now. I’m hearing that is likely, but it has to be someone that can come in a compete for a starting job and/or be an instant contributor.

I know this would be a big blow to the Sooners next year, but I’ve had multiple people say that you always lose someone unexpectedly to the NFL each year and this year it would be Stutsman IF he does in fact choose to go to the NFL. That said, he wouldn’t be as big of shock as Jalen Redmond last year, with Stutsman being a CBS All-American, 1st team All-Big 12 and some saying he can potentially be a second-round pick if things go well for him in workouts.

Just want to be clear that this isn’t done 100% and that the Sooners LB has until January 15th to make a final decision. However, this feels to be trending pretty fast in the direction of him to the NFL and we just wanted to make sure you all were aware of the buzz we have heard on him as of late.

All that said, we will continue to watch this and update you all if this was to swing back into the direction of Stutsman staying.

So stay tuned because with NIL these days nothing is off limits.

Had a good conversation Sunday night with a good source that told me All-Big 12 Sooners safety Billy Bowman would be announcing his intentions to stay or go after the Alamo Bowl.

Source said that Bowman has been very adamant that he doesn’t want to be a distraction leading up to the game vs Arizona, but also added that Bowman hasn’t been acting like a guy with one foot out the door.

With Sooners heading into the SEC next season, Bowman returning would be huge and give OU a better chance to compete (stating the obvious). Still, Bowman has had a record-setting season for OU and those are rare. Because of that, there is some sway for him to head to the NFL, though despite that no final decision being made.

All that said, I have heard Bowman is leaning on returning to Norman for the 2024 season. At least for now. I want to make it clear that “leaning” isn’t meant to be me reporting he is in fact coming back. A big bowl game, added to his stellar 2023 season, could significantly impact how his decision plays out. But, as of now, I continue to hear most feel Bowman is leaning toward being a Sooner for the 2024 season.

Again, it’s not finalized and probably far from it at this point, but I did want to make sure you all are aware of what I have heard since it’s been asked a time or one hundred over the last month.

*** Same for All-Big 12 LB Danny Stutsman, though I have heard it be more a bit more definitive regarding Stutsman and his intentions to potential return to Norman for the 2024 season.

If we start to hear that things are moving toward him leaving we will update you all. Same goes for if we hear it’s even more of a done deal that he’s staying. Either way, we will keep our ears to the ground on Bowman and Stutsman moving forward.
