So hear me out. I am a die hard OU fan. I still remember watching my first OU game when I was in second grade and we beat the dog out North Carolina. I was hooked from then on.
Here's the predicament:
I root for all of the other teams on our schedule up until the time we play them because I want our strength of schedule to be conducive for us to make it into the playoff. We were lucky last year to have a few teams on our schedule that were still in the top 10 when we played against them.
I started writing this because I saw a lot of responses to the Mason Rudolph thread about how nobody cares about how an Aggie is doing in the NFL and so on. Unless a guy is just a total piece of shit I think you should want to see anyone from our conference succeed in the NFL. Reason being, the better those guys do then the more attractive Big12 teams come to elite recruits, and therefore will raise the level of play across the board in our conference. I always want OU to be the top dog in the Big12 and I don't see that changing any time soon, but I also want our conference to stop being the joke of the Power5.
I'm 'horns down' 'Texas sucks' all day everyday, but we need them to start playing and recruiting better so that when we do play them it actually has national implications as to who wins and who loses it's a lot easier to make our case for getting into the playoff. Same could be said for OSU and TCU. It looks a lot better when you're #3 and you beat #5, or what have you, versus #3 beating #53.
So for the reasons I've mentioned above does it make me a bad fan to support all the other teams while still being an OU fanatic?
TL;DR:
I'm a huge OU fan but I support all the other teams in our conference because I believe we need them to be successful in order for us to be successful.
