of the Cub player which cost the Cubs a win in the National League playoff championships who eventually lost in these playoffs. .
The fan Steve Bartman was blamed for the loss and he had his life threatened and he faced much verbal abuse and the Chicago police had to stand guard at his house for several weeks to be sure nothing bad happened to him.

What happened to him today years later when the Cubs finally won the World Series in 2016 is pretty amazing, The owner of the Cubs announced they had a World Series winning ring made especially for that Cub's fan Steve Bartman

I lived in Chicago when Bartman did this. Man the fans, the media made life miserable for him. It was really bad. He had to quit his job and leave town. I guess winning a WS cures all.

The entire event reflected badly on the Cubs' fan base and the Chicago media.
When I watch the video, I can't help believing that ANY fan in Bartman's position would have reacted to the ball the same way.
It's sad to me that the Cubs waited so long to show this man any sympathy, but giving him a World Series ring is one of the classiest moves I have ever heard about.
I hope now that Bartman can live "happily ever after".
