with the new semester underway and the kids getting ready for spring ball, any idea when a new d-line coach will be introduced. Would be nice to have a coach there so the guys can get to know him before they put the pads on.

I've heard nothing about a hire and we are only two weeks away. Does seen playing it very close to the vest. Of course, losing a coach so close to spring ball has its challenges for the head man.

There are four names being bannered around the net. I won't name them out of respect for the pay board on this site. I'm sure they are discussing them.

Thanks for the info, K2C. Glad to know that there are names out there for consideration being discussed. Hoping for a good hire soon.

Can't mention any specific info that Carey his detailed on the pay board, but one of the names being mentioned would really be a home run hire. Hoping Bob can make it happen. If not, other names being mentioned would be very good fits as well.

It would also be nice to give a new guy some time to, hopefully, make contact with HS coaches in Texas and other areas we recruit. There are a lot of coaches meetings and conventions underway before SP begins, and if we get a guy unfamiliar with our most fertile (usually) recruiting area, guys like Gundy could take him on meet-and-greet, press-the-flesh (in a good way) encounters before he gets down to the nitty gritty of practice.

Of course, there's always summer to do this, but football kinda goes into its dormancy stage then. Coaches like to meet other coaches on the practice field or at conventions where 2/3 are drunk and convivial. (I'm guessing.)

Speaking of which, what the hell DO these coaches do those 4+ months between spring practice and fall practice? Bob is drawing roughly $441K per month during the summer just like he does during the season. Mike is getting more than $66K a month.

Bob probably has a lot of administrative duties (as he should), but what are the assistants up to? Inquiring minds ...

From what I know....right now....Calvin Thibodeaux from Kansas (and former Sooner) appeals to me the most.
He is said to be a strong recruiter and is familiar with OU's recruiting turf.....especially Texas. Given access to OU's name brand and the facilities at OU, he could really be a good fit. It has to be near impossible to attract 4 and 5 star talent to Kansas unless it's for basketball.

I think you could pick any four DT coach names and not be any farther away than the pay board. I think that who we will hire is not somebody that will be anticipated, not unlike when they made the Reynolds hire last year.

That may be true as only 4 men have been mentioned so far to fill Reynolds' spot. I hope whoever is hired has good recruiting appeal for Texas high school talent....aside from excellent coaching credentials.

Last I heard Texas A&M had tried to hire the Longhorns' DL coach, who turned the Aggies down. So OU isn't the only school looking. Maybe this isn't unusual, if so I just haven't paid attention, but programs without a position coach this late in the year and with spring practice only a week or so away seems weird. Now two major programs that vie for the same recruits in the region are searching. Maybe there are others looking as well. I would think OU will probably end up hiring a never before DL coach (a bump up from an assistant DL coach). Just a guess.

All the names are in an article in the DO. Don't need the pay board.

Thanks. I just read the article. Sounds like some good candidates. I would be really happy with the current Houston DL coach but sounds like he may be a difficult get.

Glad to see coach Stoops giving Calvin an interview. Regardless if he gets the job, Bob's interest will benefit his former great player. Nice, coach.
