First, Mike Stoops -- as DC -- should have the easiest job in America. On the other side of the ball, Riley has offenses he knows will light it up every game. What does that mean for him? He doesn't have to have a top 30 defense. He merely has to have a unit that's average, that can manage to get a few stops a game, and the team will get a win. So he has a great ability to gamble, to take chances. Instead, he's decided to play it safe, to allow opposing offenses to not be challenged on 3rd downs, not to crowd the line of scrimmage. 3rd and 4th downs -- usually money downs for a defense where the pressure is applied, are downs to back off, allowing the opponent to continue its drives and keep the ball away the potent Oklahoma offense.
The result: his defense by game's end it totally gassed and has nothing left.
I would suggest, instead, taking a different approach. Take more chances, challenge the opposing offense and either get off the field with a stop or allow a quick touchdown and NOT worry about it.
I feel sorry for those guys on defense. Play after play after play. Soft, out of position. Not aggressive. It's hard to watch.
Take a different approach Mike Stoops. For everyone's sake.
