My first reaction when his hiring was announced was who the hell is that? However, through the first couple games of the season, DR has the DL playing at the highest level since the early 2000s. The single biggest difference between last year's D and this year's D is the penetration from the DTs. They are flat blowing people up and taking away the easy inside runs that offenses feasted on last year. They are also making QBs uncomfortable from the base D which allows Mike to blitz when he wants to rather than doing it every down because he has to. I guess we'll see what happens when OU faces an experienced OL, but it certainly appears that the DL is fundamentally sound and playing with an edge that hasn't been there since Tommie, Dusty, McCoy etc. lots of good things happen when you control the LOS on defense. I'm very impressed with what DR has done with more or less the same players that Monty had.
