Dec. 29th at 3pm will be a big measuring stick for Dec. 31st

Not close to a measuring stick, unless Baylor gets their running back healthy, and can put a quarterback who the field who actually has taken mostly quarterback snaps this year.

I agree with you and the OP. As far as I know Baylor still has it's defense intact. I hope to see a Baylor defense that shuts down the NC run game. It should be a good game...

I don't think Baylor is going to shut down UNC. They're going to have to outscore them. Their defense is good, but they'll need some help.

UNC is pretty much a run first offense if I remember. I only watched them once this year. Baylor has some hosses on the DL....

One thing for sure, the Big12 drew some stiff competition in the bowls this year...

Maybe, maybe not. Keep in mind coaches use bowl games in different ways. Can be a reward for the team and coaches with extra practice time for next year's potential starters for example...or...for teams that struggled with inexperienced players, an opportunity to use the game as a positive launch point for the next season. Safe to say neither will be preparing like their playing for the NC so the results either way "could" be somewhat misleading.

*Those words jumped off the page at me, ST...I'm still having to pinch myself every time I think of it...OUr Sooners, led by JFW, are actually practicing for the NC, and it's been too long between visits! I have a feeling that we are witnessing History, in the making. For the last dozen years, I've held back, entertained doubt, kept emotions in check and showed restraint in my enthusiasm, ever reminding meself that the higher we climb, the harder we fall. It's my personal brand of self-preservation, and it hurts a little less, when we lose.

Baylor vs UNC could have been a decent "preview" of OU-Clemson if not for the loss of Baylor's starting quarterback Seth Russell....then his backup Jarrett Stidham....both of whom are done for the bowl game. Chris Johnson, the 3rd string QB suffered a concussion in Baylor's game with Texas and a WR, Lynx Hawthorne had to be pressed into action. Now, Chris Johnson is "probable" for Baylor's bowl game but it is not a certainty. Baylor's run at any kind of championship, like TCU's and OSU's, went up in smoke when its starting QB was lost. In all fairness, OU was put at a tremendous advantage in its last three games.
I know Clemson is very good (and healthy), but I believe OU can beat them with the kind of effort we saw in the Alabama Sugar Bowl. I cannot imagine Stoops not having this team focused and ready with so much on the line....and (hopefully) with lessons learned from previous national championship game disappointments.
Last year's loss to Clemson, as lopsided as it was, could, in the long run, be one of the best things to have happened to OU and especially Bob Stoops. It has already spawned a reality check by Stoops that led to an overhaul of his coaching staff and a new resolve by players and coaches to end the program's stagnation. This happened without any prompts by the media or the social network.....Stoops saw the stagnation himself.
The 2015 Sooners did not resemble in any way the 2014 Sooners. Mayfield's presence had an enormous impact, but I want to share the credit to the entire team as it improved in every game from October 10th on.
IMO, if OU plays as well as it can from here on, even in defeat, I feel Stoops has turned the corner in getting his program on the right track. But right now, OU controls its own destiny and it's time to win it all....now.

Disagree with you about OSU. And obviously TCU. They darn near beat us without Doctson or Boykin. If they'd completed that two point conversion, they'd have been conference champs, since we beat OSU. They might well have won had they kicked to tie. They had all the momentum.

And OSU had a great chance with Walsh. It threw a bit of a monkey wrench into the works of our defense. He's a quality quarterback who played all year, and had been effective from areas outside the red zone. They just couldn't handle our offense in the second quarter. They didn't lose from lousy quarterback play.

Mayfield's absence in the second half vs TCU had everything to do with OU's near defeat. Had Boykin, a Heisman candidate, played vs OU.....and with OU not having Mayfield in the second half...it's hard to imagine OU winning that game.
You're right, Plaino....Mason Rudolph (OSU's main QB) only threw for 3,591 yards prior to the OU game and was coming off a 430 yard effort in the game before OU (against Baylor). Sure, OSU didn't miss him at all. Walsh is a decent QB, but he was OSU's second team QB for a reason and having seen the OSU game replay several times, it's clear to me that the Cowboys really could not win with Walsh alone.....and I'm not sure it could have won with Rudolph, but I believe OSU would have not have lost by 35 points had he been healthy and that the game would have been much closer.

OSU was going to lose regardless IMO. I would not describe their QB play as lousy but for them to compete it was going to take above average play; their QB play was average at best. OU's offense was always a mismatch for OSU and combined with the QB play it was a recipe for a 5 TD loss; enter the osu fan laying the wood to Rudolph.

Should be an entertaining game for sure but I learned long ago that trying to come to conclusions on our game with you because of this outcome is fools gold.
It's a tiger invasion here. Is there sooner fans posting over there? I haven't checked.

Nah - our free board is a joke. It's kind of an odd deal since our premium board is top ten in all of rivals for subscribers but nobody goes to the free board.

It feels amazing and I'm just looking forward to us getting by Clemson before I start getting giddy. But it's coming.

It was announced today that Baylor will be missing their first and second quarterbacks, missing Shock Linwood, and now because of a hernia, missing Corey Coleman. They are very likely to be rolled.

BU is done!! I mean not only is Russell and Stidham out but the 3rd stringer is a question. Then to add to that Corey Coleman and Shock Linwood are out as well. It is going to be hard for them to create any offense.

Baylor the kings of September have checked out. Without Coleman...Linwood...and Stidham tbey are nothing special. I am picking NC in a big way over Baylor. They are proof that ther supposed solid depth is skin deep.

I don't think Baylor is going to shut down UNC. They're going to have to outscore them. Their defense is good, but they'll need some help.

North Carolina got fat playing :
North Carolina A&M
Illinois
Delaware..... pffft
3-9 Wake Forest And Georgia Tech

As a matter of fact I believe they only played 3 teams with a record better than .500 before representing their division in the "championship"

UNC is a basketball school. Plain and simple.
Kansas would beat them.

It was announced today, that in addition to lacking their top two quarterbacks, Baylor will also be missing SHock Linwood and Corey Coleman. That's their three most important offensive players and their most important back up. Take NC and give the points.
