Darlington

The center position was a major concern even more so than the tackle position, IMO. I eluded to my concerns last week in a thread and probably had folks thinking I was dissing Darlington. That wasn't my intent. My concern has been exactly what has occurred. Darlington is key for our OL. He is gamer, intelligent, and a captain and team leader. What strength OU has in the OL comes from the middle of the line.....center and guards. Now we have basically two guards and three other inexperienced lineman. Moving one of the guards to center may be a good option for replacing Darlington but not having a qualified backup for him isn't good, IMO. I don't know the extent of his injury but I sure hope it isn't severe enough to keep him out of the line up long term. Maybe I am overlooking a player that can step in and be as effective as we need. I hope so.

  1. Thanks for the link, K. Lincoln Riley is pretty damn impressive, and I am happy to hear that there ARE sufficient backups for Darlington. I do hope that Darlington is held out of the Tulsa game unless he is truly game ready. Tulsa's defense isn't going to be the challenge, especially for Riley since he knows Tulsa well. Our defense will need to win this game, and they will.

From what I've read both Darlington and Alvarez practiced yesterday at half-speed. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't see the field tomorrow, unless we need them. The bad thing is the starting OL unit needs all the reps they can get before the meat of the schedule. I guess we'll see tomorrow...........
