Right now: (According to Rivals)
OU has the 22nd rated class with 8 commitments, 4 of whom are 4-star recruits.
Texas has the 5th rated class with 12 commitments, 9 of whom are 4-star recruits which include 2 Oklahomans in QB Thompson and DE Tatum. Also QB Rising from California who flipped from OU to Texas....and RB Keaontay Ingram, the top back in the state of Texas recently committed.
So Texas is really taking off in its recruiting under Herman and I was surprised in seeing Texas jump up to 5th place according to Rivals this morning.
However, I expect Riley and his staff to also move up in the months to follow, at least enough to gain a good 2018 class which he's already on a course in doing.
ESPN has Texas ranked 4th and OU ranked 18th.....behind Oklahoma State and Baylor (huh ?)....so take these rankings for whatever they're worth.

I'm not a Tom Herman hater as many are, but I believe Lincoln Riley will prove to be the better coach long term. Well, isn't that surprising. LOL I also feel that OU and Texas having new young coaches beginning their careers at their respective schools during the same year will just make the RRR even more news worthy and exciting come October. My anticipation level couldn't be higher. I was really down a bit when Bob announced his retirement, but I'm over that and now really excited to see how Lincoln leads this team. I'm all in with Coach Riley. Boomer!!

I share your enthusiasm for Riley.
But my concern with Herman has to do with how he will do as a recruiter, especially in bringing in top flight quarterbacks, which has been problematic at Texas since the days of Colt McCoy (2009). Based on the returns so far in the recruitment of the 2018 class, Herman is kicking ass.

I agree 100%, yet I find football season much more enjoying when Texas has the bulk (not all by any means) of OU's attention. Before Nebraska jumped to the Big 10, I always felt that the Husker game was the biggest of the year. After they left, my attention turned to Texas as THE GAME, which is the way it was/is for the vast majority of Sooners fans. I get it, but really the RRR loss something for me when Barry could no longer cut into Royal's high horse. Mack and Bob had a good time of it, but I think there's a good chance the Riley-Herman series will become a RRR classic again. It won't happen unless both young coaches are successful.

During my lifetime, I have always considered Texas as OU's main rival. But unlike Texas, I always preferred the class that both OU and Nebraska teams and their fans showed each other.
This was based on the state of Texas being OU's main recruiting area.....and the fact that I don't like Texas fans, beginning with the f'ing cowbell a genetically impaired Porter Wagoner wannabee kept ringing while sitting behind me at the 1958 OU-Texas game. This idiot was wearing an all orange UT band uniform (the worst in CFB) and looked like Jerry Lee Lewis during an orgasmic seizure.

Great story. I don't blame you one iota. LMAO We all have our own personal reasons for picking our most hated foes. My top five are Notre Dame, USC, Ohio State, Miami, Texas. There's not much separation between the five....except for the Domers. I hate those guys in the very worse way possible. Porter Waggoner.....still laughing.

A few years ago when Texas played (and won) at Ohio State, some Texas fans complained about the Ohio State fans being rude and abusive....kinda like Hillary referring to Trump supporters as "deplorables".
I dislike Miami, USC and Texas the most. That's not because these are great football programs but because of their fans.

Texas right now is reaping the benefits of bringing on a new coach and the appeal and energy that attracts recruits. Herman is no stranger to operating in Texas so it's not surprise he is tearing it up on the recruiting trail. Who knows how well Riley and the change at head coach works out for OU. It could turn out to be a great move as recruits see it as something new and exciting the may want to be a part of. But Riley also has to make sure his assistants make recruiting a top priority year round and not suffer from another drop-off the program suffered a handful of years ago.

Pump the brakes on him being better than Herman, both will be great head coaches in my opinion but Herman beat a solid OU, Florida State and Louisville team with 2 and 3 star players. Herman has the wins as a head coach, Riley has yet to even coach a game in that position.

Same can be said about OU, all bluebloods have the reputation of a bad fan base.

Herman also filled his diaper playing SMU and San Diego State. Navy and Memphis could be considered legit losses but SMU? Herman has more challenges than Riley. The UT high dollar alum base are a bunch of nitwits. If Herman doesn't show well and early the jungle will rumble.

Not to mention that Bob will still be around to help out if I understand correctly so he's not just dropping off the map. The transition for OU should be smoother than from Brown to Strong and Strong to Herman.
