Reflecting on the wins: 45-13 over UTEP, 33-3 over Kent St and 45-14 over Nebraska. Game against UTEP was a quick sprint to a 21-0 lead before anyone could blink. Then kind of go to sleep and show the rust from the offseason. Finish out overwhelming the miners with vanilla plays and very early exit from the starters. A lot of sluggish play by the offense in the 1st 18 minutes of the 1st half. Then stellar play with vanilla offense and defense until an early exit by the starters to close out the game. Shaky start against nebbish on the first series on both sides of the ball. Then it looked like every player took about 5 caffeine pills and the slaughter is on. A very early exit by the starters early in the 3rd quarter and a 31 point victory is complete.
UTEP was bad. As Barry Switzer said before the game, OU should win big and at the end of the game you won't know how good they are due to the lack of a quality opponent. There was talk of Kent St actually being a decent team with even @Josh_M eluding to the same about their offense. We were bored and irritated in the 1st half until the last minute. Then we rocked and rolled in the 2nd half with the TD's, light show and music. Checking on Kent St today, they hung 63 points on Long Island. They also put up 20 points against Washington who most likely didn't pull their starters until late in the game. At least the Kst offense is good. (By the way, undefeated Washington is beating up and shutting out #11 MSU as I type this.) Against nebbish, is there any doubt that OU could have put up over 70 points if BV desired? We saw the play book on both sides of the ball open up and we got a glimpse of just how good this Sooner team could be. I'm thinking there is a good chance OU would have 2 shout outs already if they had employed just some of the stunts and looks that we saw today in those first two games. While you consider this, texas is trailing UTSA midway through the 2nd Q and the miners had a TD called back on a questionable illegal shift call.
I'm still not sure just how good OU is but they did a lot to ease most of my early season concerns today.
