Coaching Staff...2017

Funny. Plaino touted the OU coaching staff as the best in the nation last year. Now Lincoln Riley is saying the same thing about this year's staff. But now that Ruffin is AHC and DT Coach, how can that be possible? Did everyone notice that there was no mention of any other assistant or associate head coach designations other than Ruffin? I think Ruffin is up there as far as Riley is concerned.

I recall it was 3-4 years ago (after the 2014 season) that such a proclamation was made, the year before Stoops overhauled his staff.

All joking aside, claiming the best coaching staff in college football is always subject to challenge. Personally I don't feel a national championship team has to have the best coaching staff in college football, and rarely does.

Has there been an announcement regarding Ruffin's salary? He is the only coach with either an Assistant or Associate Head Coach designation now.....if that really means anything with regard to money. Mike is the DC and Ruffin the AHC coaching under Mike. LOL.

As the King has said, "It's the Jimmy & the Joes, not the X's & the O's."

CFB is sooo different than the NFL... in CFB you have to recruit and you have to enjoy recruiting. Period. One year's worth of slacking and you end up eventually playing against the better Jimmy & Joes. If you allow two years of slacking, most HC can't survive.

Recruiting is tricky.
A team can bring in a highly rated class of 25 recruits....and hope that 10 become solid contributors.

This is why you recruit every year. There is no slacking in CFB when it comes to recruiting. The name of Oklahoma will open the door for you. Stoops stability & track record of winning conference titles opened it further. Riley's pitch has to be different. He has to be relentless and he has to have his coaches the same way.

Agree. That's why Riley needs to hit the ground running his first two years.
