Their stadium was full of crazy fans for last nights game against the U (which Cincy won). IMO Cincy and Memphis should be invited to join the Big XII. Both have good football programs right now (Cincy has always been pretty good) and both have top 25 BB programs. It makes geographical sense and would open fertile recruiting areas for the Big XII. Forget BYU, don't care to watch games starting at 9 or 10 p.m.

Makes sense so therefore it won't happen.

If the Big 12 had to take two teams in WVU's geographic region, I would prefer Cincinnati and Memphis, but beware, those two fanbases can be big time let downs football-wise. They get up and get crazy for big games, but the support is often fleeting. Historically, the football just isn't there.

Basketball-wise, they would be two solid additions, no doubt.

If the Big 12 did decide to take both, I would hope both Cincy and Memphis would not receive a full share of the Big 12 dollars for many, many years - make them earn their way in. WVU had to do the same, and I believe TCU did as well. I'd make Cincy and Memphis work twice as hard for the dollars, because they are in a much more dire situation at the moment.

BYU will never be in the conference. XII tv partners want to have the freedom to play post season tournaments on Sundays, and BYU will never play on Sundays. If not for that, they'd already be in.

The problem with UCinn in football is that like many urban university's with major league sports, they don't support the local college teams, except for event kind of games. Miami is the same way, though they hide it well.

Miami traditionally fills up the place to play Florida State. But the stadium isn't half full for lesser opponents. Cincinnati is a pretty small city compared to many that have both Major League Baseball and NFL football.

It would surprise most people that Cincinnati's population is almost 100,000 smaller than Tulsa. Tulsa is also bigger than Cleveland, which also has MLB and NFL franchises. Heck, Arlngton Tx is a suburb in the DFW area, and it is bigger than Cincinnati and only about 30,000 smaller than Cleveland. Look at SMU essentially in Dallas, which seldom has 10,000 in the stands for home games. Excluding students, less than half that. Allen High School outdraws SMU.

There are exceptions. UDub draws pretty well, even though there are MLB and NFL teams in Seattle. But it's a state school. Same with ASU in the Phoenix area. But it is different when the alumni base is a lot larger.

Also keep in mind that programs like Tulsa, Cincy, Houston, Memphis, etc. have traditionally been "stepping stone" programs and coaches don't generally stick around for 18-19 seasons. As a result, because of the coaching carousel every few years, they have more defined "peaks and valleys" in regard to winning and losing seasons. Chances are, Tommy Tuberville and Justin Fuentes will probably not be coaching at their respective universities in the next 2 or 3 years and will move on to big name programs. And as others pointed out, these schools are lucky to get 30,000 per game, so for those reasons, I'm not sure if we want to add a Cincy or Memphis right now.

The Big 12 needs two more teams but there aren't any that can be had worth inviting. OU will have to leave the B12 to better its position. I don't know what the hold up is really. Time isn't on our side. OU could probably go to any conference now except perhaps the PAC, but that may change soon. The B12 will probably end up doing what the B10 did when it took Rutgers and Maryland....two losers....just in order to widen its footprint. Money is more important than giving the fans competitive games to enjoy.

I'm loathe to admit it but, I didn't realize Rutgers is in the Big 10.

That is funny!

Yeah, when I heard about it I thought it was a joke. Hell, it is a joke! Seriously, that's what is going to happen to the Big 12, and that's a crying shame.

It's a bit premature to consider it a done deal that the conference goes chasing the dollars while expanding. The reason there are championship games is money and the fact that the conferences are too large for each team to play all others.

That's the best draw of the power5 conferences, and also the Big 12's Achilles heel. Right now more unbeaten teams than any other conferences, but that's going to change right away.
