Charles Tapper on Dallas radio today

well hey lets pencil us into the bottom of the conference along with Kansas. Tap said we will be better., I believe him over you. Last I remembered we made the final four................
Personally, I don't think what a past team member thinks about this years team really means very much. I mean what do you expect him to say? Truth is, OU lost some key members on both offense and defense. I expect them to be good, but its not a foregone conclusion that we are going to better than last year. We have a chance to be but making it to the final 4 two seasons in a row will be a challenge.

Oh, I agree. No way I would trust a former player that went up against the greatest competition in the country last year. He's probably just yanking it out of thin air.

Now Vegas is a different story. Favored in every regular season game....

I think they have the talent and skill sets to get to the final four again. I think the biggest tangible that most of us forget or miss on (media & Vegas too) is the mindset or attitude that this 2016 team will bring to the field. They are going to have to earn everything. Nothing will be handed to them because of last year's record but for pre-season ranking & pre-season press coverage. If this team isn't focused mentally, they will fall short. A Houston road win & a Buckeye home win will allow this team to grow mentally beyond most expectations & set the table for the season.

Never did hear where he said OUs defense would be better or that OU would go undefeated or that OU would make the Final Four again. But if he did, then good to hear his confidence. But with him being tied up trying to get ready for his rookie year with the Cowboys, I'm not sure how much of the OU football team he has seen this summer to really know. Plenty of teams out there that have the potential to do what Tapper mentioned, but it's a matter of making it happen on the field during the season.

K2C, I guess bw listens only to those former players who are quick to criticize the team, but disregards those who have good things to say. Since he was on last year's team, I'll take Tapper's assessment over a former player who last played 15-20 years ago.

I understand that many of us are "cautiously optimistic," but some peoples' glass is not only half-empty, but close to bone-dry.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I'll wait till January 2017 to decide if I'm confident in this season. Vegas preys on the optimistic. I think its cool to be optimistic, but I'm a high stake gambler during the season. Take away the money at stake and I'm optimistic as can be. Anyone have a safe pick for the team to pick?

Clemson would be my "safe pick." Almost everone returns and an easy schedule makes them look pretty tough to beat. A road game to FSU looks like the the only real obstacle.

This isn't the entire interview.... At the end of the interview he was asked about this year's team and he said all the loses on D are replaceable players and this team won't lose a game. I know you go out of your way to make me look bad but try again holmes

Overall I do agree with you here BW. But also, OU does return quite a bit from last years team too to build around. Every program in the country loses pieces of their teams every single year. So OU isn't alone in that regard. Whether OU can fill in the open spots where they lost bigtime talent from last year will of course play a HUGE role into how this season goes. But make no mistake that OU does return a TON of potential from last year too.

So I will take my usual stance...."cautiously optimistic". ;)

Well I do agree that former players are good sources of info. Spencer Tillman, Casillas, etc.

Tillman maybe, and even that's a stretch. Casilas no way, not only does he have an ax to grind but he's so removed from the program that Mack Brown probably has more inside info.

Anyone notice he picked the two guys that seemingly always talk trash on OU?

Well Casillas was 10x the player Tapper ever was and I consider both he and Tillman some of the all time greats. True, they don't sunshine pump about the program, but that doesn't mean they are irrelevant.

Casillas is major league irrelevant. He's biased and can not speak objectively. He's a pissed off former Sooner with ax to grind. He's your opposite of a sunshine pumper which is equally irrelevant. He's the Ying to the Yang and as such, his commentary is worthless.

I guess I didn't realize you were a Tony Casillas expert. Personally, I don't feel comfortable being that negative about a former Sooner great.

There is no doubt Casillas seems to be pissed at OU. And I've never really heard or understood why?? I can understand his bitterness towards Bosworth. I still think it's ridiculous for him to still be bitter over that crap, but I get it. But I've never understood why the guy overall just seems to have a pure hatred for OU.

Really? Landry says "Hello" :D
All joking aside, I feel very comfortable sorting out the BS lip service from both extremes. But each to their own.

Hmmm I seem to remember saying that Landry could turn out to be a quality backup in the NFL. I guess some people would call that being negative. I call it realistic

I call them as I see them
So will JoshM if you decide to return to your usual posting routine that many on here are familiar with. I'm not trying to make you look bad, I'm actually trying to help you as a fellow Sooner fan. I haven't seen you post in quite a while until recently, so maybe you aren't aware of JoshM's post pinned at the top of the forum. Please, check it out.

Casillas taking issue with Bosworth's antics, pointing out what he perceives as a double standard in OU reinstating Mixon after he assaulted a woman while kicking the SAE fraternity and a stupid frat rat off campus for racist slurs I have no problem with. That he thinks Trevor Knight may exceed Baker Mayfield this season playing in a superior conference is his opinion only and an opinion I don't regard as anti OU....besides, who gives a s**t. Bosworth's antics bothered me as well and I see a bit of hypocrisy by OU in its handling of the Mixon situation and the racist chant by members of a frat house....and I'm nowhere near being anti OU as a fan for over 55 years.

Tony is pissed OU didn't offer him the D line coaching position. There is a reason The sports animal didn't hire him as well
