Oklahoma senior defensive end Charles Tapper was named Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after his season-best effort in Saturday's 62-7 win at Kansas.

Tapper, who shared the award with Oklahoma State's Emmanuel Ogbah, recorded his first three sacks of the year and registered two forced fumbles in less than three quarters of work as the Sooners won their third straight game and improved to 7-1 overall and to 4-1 in conference play.

The 6-2, 282-pound Baltimore native was the catalyst for an OU defense that held the Jayhawks to 216 total yards (3.1 per play) and less than 1.0 yard per rush. The Sooners recovered both of Tapper's forced fumbles and converted them into 10 points.

Over the last three games, Oklahoma has outscored Kansas State, Texas Tech and Kansas by a 180-34 margin and has outgained them 1,895 yards to 751. OU's defense has forced nine turnovers in those three wins.

Tapper's Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honor is the first of his career and the fourth of the season for the Sooners (their most since 2008). Zack Sanchez picked up the award twice (Sept. 14 and Oct. 19) and Eric Striker earned it once (Oct. 5). Tapper is the first OU defensive lineman to be named Big 12 Player of the Week since Ronnell Lewis in 2011.
