In the history of Oklahoma football than # 3 OU losing to Iowa State's 2017 team. Surely there is a worse loss but I cannot think of one.

2005 to USC
1971 to Nebraska
1957 to Notre Dame
But these three losses were inflicted on three very good Oklahoma teams.
I don't believe this year's team is as elite as those other three teams. The remainder of this season will confirm this even more. The Baylor game should have tipped us off.

Those losses were to very good teams. This was Iowa State....at home....pathetic

I should know better than to post something like this with you sitting back with your fantastic recall. CT, you are a treasure. Boomer, my friend.

This loss is the worst one I can remember. Just too many failures against a third string QB who ruled supreme over a clueless and often out of position defense. I would have never guessed this would be a close game and a painful Sooners loss. The offense was not sharp and Siebert missing a makeable FG was the tarnish on cheap n shiny silver...

That turned out to be a non-loss as OU won the national championship that year, despite Arizona State running the table with a 12-0 record against a weak schedule.

True. That's how it turned out, but I remember how it felt at the time... and it felt like all hope was lost for an NC. And we KNEW that was a good team. It took nine fumbles and the best performance of Nolan Cromwell's career for us to lose. We still don't know how good this team is. We just know it won in Columbus. We also know it struggled mightily against a team that has yet to win a game. And it got manhandled for a while against mighty Tulane (who was also playing a backup quarterback).

We still don't know how this season plays out. If OU loses two or three more, which is certainly possible, then this just goes down as another loss to an inferior team. If they run the table and get left out of the dance, then yesterday's game is right up there. Right now, I believe the former is more likely than the latter.

I felt a lot worse after that game in '75 than I did after yesterday's game. But maybe some of that is just age and perspective.

Hold on....Iowa State lost close games to a good Iowa team and to a Texas team on its way back to being good again and they face TCU and OSU at home.
But however you regard Iowa State, what matters is that they were clearly the better team and better prepared yesterday. And beating OU could be a significant stepping stone for Coach Matt Campbell's program.
Our biggest concern now should be what the future is for Riley's program.
