Full transcription from Lincoln Riley and Mike Stoops on potentially redshirting Caleb Kelly. He would have played had Curtis Bolton been injured. But once it was clear Bolton just got hit low and would be back next play, Bryan Mead played instead.
Mead over Kelly?
“We’re kind of evaluating that position right now. Calebl’s doing a good job. We are looking at it. He is a guy that does have a redshirt year. Not to say that that’s what we’re going to do, but this four-game deal starts to come into play. That was a factor in that position. I don’t know how it’s going to play out. I don’t want every headline now to say that we’re going to redshirt Caleb Kelly. I don’t know what we’re going to do. But that was a factor in the decision-making process." - Lincoln Riley
Kelly?
"Yes. That’s’ something that we are looking at to see what our options are there with the player and what’s best for our program and for him. We’re always in discussions with our players and what fits them as well. We’d hate to waste a year just kind of rotating two guys of that magnitude. We feel like Caleb has a huge upside and we want him to develop into the player that we think he can be." - Mike Stoops
