As a long time OU fan (30 years +) I am generally optimistic about the future as IMO our program is on the upswing (new coaches, increased recruiting emphasis, new facilities, new game plans, increased sense of urgency, etc.) However, the immediate future (2015 season) looks difficult to me.
We start the season with only five games where we will be clearly favored (not that long ago when we would have been favored in nearly all of our games). How the mighty have fallen as we have clearly lost much of our competitive advantage!
In the following (2015) games we will be toss-ups or dogs:
Even assuming a big turnaround on both Offense and Defense (which I am willing to assume) it is hard to see more than five wins in these seven games. That would leave us at 10-2 probably headed for the Cotton, Holliday, or Alamo Bowl short of the conference championship and out of playoff consideration again.
Does anybody see more than ten wins next year? Frankly IMO its much more likely that we finish at 8-4 (again) than 10-2.
Where is this program headed? My fear is that we are headed for a Nebraska, Texas, Alabama, Florida State, Penn State rerun.

- Great coach does well early on earning right to retire on his own terms
- Great coach stays about 5 years too long
- Program slides into mediocrity (8-4)
- Assistants fired every year as scapegoats
- Program and brand take a beating
- Next head coach fired after two years as cupboard is bare
- Please tell me I am wrong!
