It’s BV’s defense, he’s running it. Roof has spent the last year learning BV’s defense. He will just help facilitate the message and install BV’s system.
He was probably hired mainly for his recruiting ties to the Southeast (where ALL of our new offers are going) and his veteran experience a la Ruffin for TBOW.
I would assume BV will groom a young DC replacement and Roof won’t be here longer than a year or 2.
We were never going to get some big name to come in and abandon all of their philosophies to run Venables defense. What top DC would do that??? Obviously it’s not a sexy pick but it tells me that Venables will have a direct hand in the defense this year. He’s not letting Ted ****ing Roof run the show
