Brock just released a statement thanking the OU coaching staff, but he is decommitting and reopening his recruitment. Wonder if the blowout loss had anything to do with it.

I’m thinking it’s a silent commitment from Chad Morris.

I mean, I would really hope not. OU has been putting QB's into the NFL -- what more would a QB recruit want? If they only want to play for a team that goes undefeated, that would severely narrow their choices, wouldn't it? Do you really think a QB would look at this Offense and go, "But they got blown out in the CFP...I think I'll go elsewhere."?

Solid post.

FWIW, his twitter post says it's because over the past couple of months, he has come to realize how difficult it would be to play so far away from home. Sounds reasonable to me, especially coming from a kid with a close-knit family.

Regardless of his decommitment reason, any young up and coming QB who can’t see and embrace the advantages of playing with Riley must not be paying attention. The stratospheric success that’s transpired at the OU QB position over the last 3-4 years, should be enough to kill any doubts or second thoughts for a young prospect. If they don’t have enough insight or self awareness to see that, they probably should go somewhere else.

I do not think LR's status had anything to do with it but I do think that SEC recruiters have been in his ear saying you will never win an NC at OU because of the D. The distance might be a convenient out but unless something has changed it's no farther from Georgia to Norman today than it was a year ago.

If I were a highly recruited high school quarterback, I would be looking at how well a team's defense plays in addition to that team's offense. I would want to go to a team that has the overall capabilities to win a national championship, not a team that cannot win one because of a lack of defense.....and not a team with a fan base that is increasingly content to win a weak conference with a team that implodes in the postseason.

If they want to win a playoff game, yes.

And you don't think this kid was getting non-stop grief in the middle of the SEC after our blow-out loss to LSU? So he was brought up as a nice kid and gave a polite answer - OU too far from home - but I don't find the timing of this announcement just four days after OU was EMBARRASSED simply a cowinkydink. So maybe he was not 100% committed, but instead of letting things play out into 2020 the kid made the abuse go away on 1/1.

if I was 5 star QB recruit, the fan bases contentment would be the last thing I’d worry about... if I worried about it at all. Being a 5 star QB means that many professionals that evaluate HS kids talent think that I’m a very gifted football QB. As such, my first thoughts would be who can take my skills and hone and improve them to the next level. LR is that coach in CFB right now. But my window of time is short. I need to be on the field by my Sophomore year.

BV feels a bit threatened by Chad Morris getting a year on him. I think he committed too early anyway and he now recognizes it.

A lot of that going on in recruiting. But distance can be a factor for a 16-18 year old boy. Norman Oklahoma may seem like 5,000 miles from Bogart Georgia to Vandagriff.
It may be a reason why OU had 14 of its 23 recruits this year from Texas and from instate.....and I expect OU to tap into Texas talent more than ever before in the future. So far, 3 of OU's 4 commitments in the 2021 and 2022 classes are from Texas and one is from instate.
