So Boren spoke up not long ago about what changes he wants to see happen to the conference, and this is how he gets treated. I guess they were upset that Boren spoke the absolute truth and it hurt their feelings. It sounds like this was nothing but getting all the schools leaders together to give Boren a big ole gangbang!!!:mad:

I really wish Boren would tell Bowlsby and the Big XII to go eff themselves and leave. Boren needs to start looking at an exit plan. This conference is just a huge cluster.......

So it turns out that the Big 12 is not only an increasingly irrelevant conference but also one whose leadership runs it like a gulag.

Don't kid yourself, Boren knew exactly what he was doing by speaking out before the meeting.

He is a master politician. By pushing early, he put them all on notice.

If OU leaves, you have the southwest conference and the nowhere northern schools who would fit better in a second tier conference. The northern scools will never win a title, and when Snyder finally retires KSU is irrelevant in football.

Kansas would bolt to Big 10 or ACC because of basketball.

A southwest conference won't cut it.

The Texas boys can try, but Boren has already put them all in notice.

Don't underestimate Mr. Boren, too many years in DC. He thinks too many steps ahead.

I thought the same thing when he publicly said what things needed to happen in the Big XII. But now that the Big XII pulled this and clearly did it to shun and insult Boren, let's hope it only further entrenches him to start looking elsewhere and leave this conference with UT and the other wannabe programs that are content with getting UT's table scraps....

Boren will give them a little time. But they will not tell David Boren what to do. Boren will have already done preliminary talk with Big 10 & SEC. He won't be caught off guard. The Big 12 commissioner is a non factor in this deal. It's the Texas schools vs OU, everyone else including little sister is a non factor

It's UTerus still running things--with Bowlsby functioning as their mouthpiece. But this time I don't think Boren will let them railroad the rest of the league (at least not OU) just so they can continue to reap outsize profits for their inferior products.

What have the clowns in Austin won in the last couple of years? Not even softball! Not gymnastics, not wrestling (do they even have it?), not tennis, not track and field, not basketball, not football. What's left? Have they even won baseball? Maybe they have girls lacrosse ... yeah, that must be their signature team!

UT is a craphole at the moment, in turmoil, don't know up from down, yet they're getting 20 mil a year from those morons at ESPIN. And for THAT we should shut our mouths and continue to be one of their lackeys? Don't think so. And more importantly, Boren doesn't think so.

We're preparing this train for an exit.

The bricks are starting to crumble (not that they werent anyway) The question is what conference wants a power house to just step into their conference and start kicking the rears of their faithful members.

Yes, Boren indeed knows exactly what he is doing, and that includes knowing pretty much where OU will end up. When he wants something, he usually gets it. Who else can get the Chairman of BP and Margaret Thatcher on a conference call and broker a deal for the land now known as OU Tulsa??

I truly hope Boren can persuade the powerful OU decision making group to join one of the other major conferences preferably the Big 10 or SEC. The Big 12 administrators are simply not forward thinking enough and probably have allowed the conference's best opportunity for expansion slip through the crack.

What power does the commissioner have in shutting down comments by any member pres. If he keeps talking, can the com office take any action against OU?

Not sure, but I would like to see Boren continue to speak his mind publicly just as a way to tell Bowlsby and the rest of the powers that voted they can shove their gag order you know where.....;)

The problem is there is no unity in the Conference. It's all for one and none for all. It's an isolationist conference & was set up as a 1, 2, and then all the rest. It's designed to eventually fail.

I thought it was too interesting that after the gag order, that there were two people who spoke for the conference about the meeting. There was Bowlsby. And there was the UT AD. Well the interim AD. Apparently, the gag order applies to only 9 schools.

I don't think it's interesting, or even surprising to see the Texas AD up there in that capacity.

The original B12 could have been great today if it had been thinking ahead and added two quality programs rather than let Texas reign over the conference before A&M, Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado escaped for greener pastures. I like TCU who could have become #13, but I think there was a time that the Big12 had better options for adding two more to get to a 14 team conference. Finding 4 or even 2 worthy programs now is probably not likely.

For me, the irony is that the ACC was pretty much in the same boat. No conference network. Two quality football programs, one of which was headed downhill. But they added ND then the demise of the BEast gave them some additional quality, especially in their best sport ... basketball. And now they seem to be thriving with new studs showing up in unexpected places, and butting heads with the SEC. It is just remarkable. The thing holding the XII back is UT. Even if they return to good in football, they are the detriment that screws conference uhhh friends. And then I watch them get breaks from officials that nobody else gets and it makes me very angry.

Now three Horn posters will come here and tell me it is my imagination. But if the fans of nine schools see the same apparition, maybe we are not imagining it.

It's not your imagination. Texas was the bully from the beginning of the Big 12 and for the life of me I can't understand why the Big 8 schools allowed that to be the case. OU wasn't the same program when the conference was formed but still. And it continued to be a Texas lead-by-the-nose conference even after Bob Stoops began kicking everyone's ass. Why?

Perceived provider of tv sets.

I'm certain that you are correct. Does UT pull in more TV than the rest of the conference? I understand the big dog gets to eat first but it doesn't get to pick the meal too. There is always power in numbers but the other schools evidently couldn't work together. Texas had to have allies. They weren't Nebraska or A&M. Was OU one? I've always wondered.

Yes. Boren maybe flexing his jaws now, but a few years ago, he was all UT & OU w/ their own networks.

WNAS, Texas couldn't have ruled the conference without help, so I agree with you. That may have been a good strategy had the powers that be had had the vision the other major conferences had a few years back. Goes back an old business saying "Are we going to (screw) or hold the flashlight". If you wait and watch, you end up missing out. That's what has happened to Oklahoma, IMO.

Next president meeting is early summer, so will be very interesting to see what transpires out of that meeting. Nebraska bolted for the big x after lack of support during such a meeting and hopefully Boren will be ready to act one way or the other. I'll be very disappointed if the big xii does nothing and Boren does not act. The only problem is Boren foolishly voted to give away tv rights to the big xii for a huge number of years (Texas laughed all they way to the bank with their long term espn deal).

Just a matter of time until the big xii implodes. Texas took the SWC down and they will bring the big xii down as well.

You bring up a very good point. How much would it cost the university to leave the conference given its commitments and the TV issues?

It's not really a problem of how much it would cost the university. It's how much it would cost the new conference.

Expansion

Of all the Big 12 schools, it appears that West Virginia is on board with Oklahoma in wanting something to be done.

They have this topic on their Board which is now 18 screens long.

Check it out if you get a chance.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!
