BOB said after the game, "STAY POSITIVE"

I was positive until the final seconds of the Houston game. I'm just not feeling it any longer. I feel like I've gone back in time, it's like watching the games in the 90's........uninspired, undisciplined, and it's been like this for awhile now. I watched Urban Meyer on the sidelines.......that guy has passion and it inspires his staff and players, and it is consistent in every game, regardless of the competition. I haven't seen that fire in Sooner teams in some time now.

My thinking exactly, how can we stay positive after last night. Zero passion from team and coaches. Love the stadium, fans were awesome. Now what?

Who was it that said this loss would be the beginning of the end for Bob? While most did not agree. This poster nailed it. Bob & Mike are walking dead.

We are getting deeper and deeper in a hole. Tired of announcers saying we look confused, the entire secondary is confused. We have not done good at recruiting. With Ohio State being the youngest team they sure know there positions.

How many people thought OU was the better team, before the game? I didn't.

OSU is Houston on Steroids. Now, I do think it is stupid to play a basic set offense and defense the first two games and expect the players to understand there complicated, new assignments, when they play superior talent, for the first time. That's what tuneup games are for. OSU has better players that out executed OU. Did anyone see anything different, with OSU? They played the same game plan with minor tweaks, they have, the last 18 games.

OU hasn't learned the spread offense of Rileys in two years. Mayfield does not go through his reads, or is to short to see the field. The front 7 is not very good and the DB's are good on one side but we have a deep hole with the other.

QB. D took sacks, didn't see wide open receivers plus bad decisions. "Hero ball"
WR. play C- they didn't block when not carrying the ball
Oline. C- but the injury and moving players during the game didn't help
Dline. B- not bad
LB. D- out of position and poor tackling
CB. C
S. D- little to no help for the inexperienced guys
ST. D outside of Mixons run we looked bad. He should have fielded the 70 yard punt, that flipped the field. We didn't contain on returns and the missed FG

Coaching Offense C, players didn't block, QB fails to follow the playbook
Coaching Defense, D- why would anyone expect players to understand a gameplan they haven't used except in practice. Some of this could be explained with the lack of good options at LB.

We have one corner back that will turn his head and play the ball in the endzone. We'll either give up a touchdown or get called for pass interference.

High school shit.

We learned that in middle school... You can't make a play on the ball if your're looking away from it... two should have been intercepted, possibly three...

What might give me hope is our weak conference. Maybe we can win a few. Big 12 champs must show in the Sugar Bowl to get rolled by Ole Miss or Texas A&M. You know. The way Oklahoma State did last season.

I am positive that the little xii is a chance to win 9 more games...

I kind of feel the same way about our Horns on defense...simply clueless at times. The shootout could well be a 50 to 47 kind of game, either way

It's difficult to even think we might not be bowl eligible. My feelings and thoughts are all over the place. Disappointed, angry, and sad. I need a doctor.

Oh I'm sure OU will be bowl eligible. They will make a decent run at a Big XII title, and maybe even win it. And if they win another Big XII title, Bob at the end of the year will give a glowing report of how OU has won another championship and that everything is just fine. Then after he leaves the podium from that speech, he will prolly walk straight to a room where JoeC and Boren are waiting with another contract extension and another pay raise to keep the good ole gravy train going.

I need a job like that, who knew they existed.

About an hour before the game, I ran to the store and as I was pulling up in my driveway the song came on "SOMETHING BAD ABOUT TO HAPPEN", I hope I never hear that song again

You lost to two top 5 teams so the sky isn't falling. I do think that 18 years is too much at one place if you aren't getting the results you want. HOWEVER you need to have a plan in place of exactly what to do afterward. There are many instances where a 10 win coach is fired and then the program sinks even lower.

Jon Cooper at OSU did nothing but win 10 games pretty much every year, but could never beat Michigan. He was shown the door & we hired a FCS national championship coach and got what we were looking for.

Some of us, I'd say most on this board, are very aware of the Schmelly Burgers and Blake years... there is only one time in the history of OU Football that had three losing seasons in a row... nobody I know wants to go back to those days. That doesn't excuse the play, or lack there of, of this team in recent years in big games. Getting beat in a hard fought contest is one thing. Repeatedly laying eggs made of dung are another, whether you wrap it in gold foil or not. It's still crap. I have no doubt that Bob Stoops can take this team to another NC. I do question whether he will. I'll be a friend for life, doesn't mean I'll let my friend ruin my business... same goes for my brothers...

Bob's has a unique family, he will quit before he fires his brother. When I say unique, I don't see family that close. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt it.

I agree. I talk to my brothers on a regular basis. I don't let them cut down trees with me. Why? I don't want them or anyone else to die.

Bob's case is different. His brothers are very capable coaches. Let them coach, elsewhere. Nepotism is frowned upon in many places for a reason. Bob made a tough decision when he revamped the offense and fired guys who were "like family." Mike Stoops looks and sounds like an employee who is trying to cover up his failures. Instead of taking responsibility, he makes excuses. But Mike isn't like family. He is family.

I don't watch Bob's press conferences much at all, but I did look at this one for some reason. What I saw was a different Bob Stoops than I have seen in the past. Bob, to his credit, took blame for the way the players performed more than once during the presser. He accurately pointed out player's failures then again accepted the blame. He looked pretty frustrated and, well, pissed. I think Bob, by taking the blame, really was pissed at his coaching staff, which he is responsible. Bob didn't expect to be 1-2, but even more, I don't think he expected his team to being playing so poorly. I look for improvement, and I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't, there will be coaching changes coming unless there is a marked improvement soon. IMO, the defense needs something or someone. The problem I have with Mike Stoops being in charge is Mike runs the defense like Bob probably would. I think that's an issue. The Stoops' defense, which was once great, isn't so damn good any more. I understand that it is not the exact same defense, but it is exact same thinking of how to stop someone.....that is we need a new plan and Mike won't or can't do that. Now that could be because in order to win games in the B12, you must play a different game than when Bob was coaching in the SEC. But does that mean OU is going to be competitive in the B12 but unable to defend teams that run different offenses? If so, the Sooners are always going to be at a disadvantage come bowl season. That's what it appears. So where does Bob find a DC that can shut down offenses like OU, Baylor, etc. have, and is capable of shutting down the more traditional offenses as well? They must be out there because B12 teams get shut down during bowl season. That's the kind of guy Bob needs to find and hire. Mike needs to go. He is only going to make Bob's job more difficult. If he cared for Bob, he would look for another school to coach. I don't that's in the cards, but maybe I'm wrong. One thing I heard during an interview with Urban Meyer Saturday night that caught my attention. He was talking about his DC (can't remember his name but he coached Rutgers for several years).....Meyer said he doesn't normally hire "friends" but he has been friends with this guy for a long time. Basically, that tells me he takes away the guilt issue when having to fired a buddy. I think that is very smart. I know from experience that's hard to do.

Yes, he had a hard time with Josh Heuple. So, now what? They both stay, or both go?

My thoughts, hire a defensive coordinator, give Mike another job that he thinks is a promotion. Some office job. That's the best I got.

I will say this about Bob's press conference after the game. Usually he gets extremely defensive and takes a condescending and arrogant tone with the media asking questions after a bad loss. But this time I picked up a hint of humility out of Bob. He definitely had a different tone than he usually takes. I think his pride may have taken a hit after taking such an ass kicking at home and such a HUGE game for his program. And maybe it's the cumulative effect of the last few years of taking epic beatings from Clemson in bowls the last 2 seasons. They his team takes a beating from Houston on national TV. Then his team takes another beating from Ohio State in front of the home crowd in Norman. Maybe he is really coming to terms with just how far behind his program has fallen behind the TRUE top tier programs in the country. OU has fallen to at least the 2nd tier in terms of elite programs right now. He needs to decide if he is up to the challenge to do what it takes to get his program back to that top tier again.....or not.

The comment I heard... 1-3 in the last 4 games with the lone victory over Louisiana-Monroe... Sure, Clemson was #1 at the time and OSU is now #2, Houston is a top program, buuuuutttttt.... Who is OU? Shouldn't this team be prepared to play anybody, anywhere? 1-3 vs that group might seem acceptable given the quality of opponent, but being dominated by them shouldn't be, period.

Yes, if we would have played a close game an lost. I doubt we would be on the boards bitching so much. But to see that big of a debacle, how can we be positive.

We can be positive that something is going to change, one way or another...

On another note, I was flipping through the channels on the boob tube, and stopped on MTV Live, formerly Palladia. 80's Rewind Fest 2012 was on with the Bangles... well, Susanna Hoffs is reportedly 57, so 53 when this was filmed... well... not to be blunt, but I'd definitely feed that vegetarian some meat...
