Big recruiting "summit" this weekend at OU

Go look at the short horns forums and Twitter feeds.

They're all up in arms, claiming it broke NCAA rules. How we're cheating hosting a summit. Put together by recruits, for recruits.

I would bet there was a coach or two "chaperoning" this "summit".
And if it's any kind of a violation.....why ?
I suspect there are all kinds of NCAA rules involved that would make it sketchy if coaches were hanging around. I also suspect that if this were going on in Austin, that Sooner fans would be making accusations of illegalities.

IMO that's a bet you'd lose. There is no way they would subject themselves to violations over the summit. I don't even think they're needed. Keep in mind that Caleb knows what he's doing. Afterall he wrote OPED articles for SI. He gets it. He knows the score that the new rules of the NCAA have ushered in. His dad gets it too. They are setting themselves up for a legal windfall and surrounding themselves with as much talent as they can. He knows he needs talent to win Nattys and he's very hopeful for a Heisman. And he's gathering as many from the region of the country he played. Virginia specificsally. A lot of the kids know him from that area. He's also managed to get a few others on board as well. Getting Wheaton & Leigh there was huge!

If Switzer was still HC we'd have picked them all up at the airport in a Prevost coach and taken them to a casino. We are way too smart now to touch this thing.

Agreed. Different world of recruiting these days. Riley isn't going to compromise his future for a committed recruit's fun weekend.

I would think the NCAA would WANT at least one or two coaches to oversee the "summit".
It's fine with me if I'm wrong on this and I see it as a great recruiting tool. We may see it pay off big time in the near future if what I'm reading about OU's recruiting targets are true.

This can't be true. Texas was certain that they were the favorite.

They CAN"T be out of it, already.
According to OUInsider, Texas was eliminated. The same article says he is a "top 2" running back in the nation and a top twenty overall recruit.
OU's competition for Wheaton are the two teams that blasted OU in the playoffs the last two seasons, but Norman is closer to Garland, so maybe that fact and having DeMarco Murray talking to him along with Caleb Williams can do the trick.

I think he goes where Leigh, ends up. So Bama is out and it's down too OU or LSU.

He's all Sooner but for the publicized commitment. Most think he's already given the quite verbal to the Coaches but has decided to wait for his 'time' to go public. And if I had to worry between LSU & Bama, It'd be w/ Saban.

Lincoln put out the eyes on Twitter this morning. This guy is a ball hawk on offense and defense with track speed. Horns are also worried about other guys possibly decomitting.
quick scan of texasrivals and they are blaming herman for it. guy is 27-16 since coming to austin. if we can scare up a win tomorrow.....

We now have a shot at his teammate, Sanders. texASS #1 recruit. He's just like Bowman and plays both ways. A badass TE and DE.

It will be hard to decide which side of the ball, either one plays. Bowman is a great CB, return guy and Sanders is a better, bigger, Bru McCoy.

Any big time defensive players wanting to come to OU? Its a serious question

We've cleaned up at DE and a great CB. We need a true DT, Mike another CB and safety. A few of the DE, will play with their hand in the ground but most likely play around 270-280 range.

Will close out, with a OG, RB and 1 or 2 OT. Possibly another WR, offense.
Bowman is a stud on both sides but most have him as a CB, return guy.

My question. With this season not counting as far as the NCAA. How many scholarship can we give?

For a team that's off to such a bad start, OU is doing very well right now in recruiting. OU's recruiting is ranked 12th by Rivals, 13th by 247 Sports, 13th by CBSsports and "close to" a top ten class by ESPN so far.
With two 5-star and seven 4-star recruits, I can't complain. Plus the QB is more of a dual type, which OU needs.
5 of the 7 4-star players are on defense.
15 commitments so far and I see the need for at least two more offensive linemen, two more linebackers and RB Camar Wheaton.
Plus I want to see what the junior college ranks will provide.
